Centreville Chantilly Rotary Connects through community, service, and connections. October and November saw a flurry of activities for our club. DG Sheila Brennan visited in early October and welcomed new members Ruth Pearson and Stanley Jones. A collection drive with the local police station to provide mittens and gloves for elementary school children, a bread delivery to Fairfax Salvation Army, White House Ornament Fundraiser, and participation in Western Fairfax Christian Ministry's Fall Fundraiser highlight a few of our activities.

Our Club President Carol Robinson, Immediate Past President W Wallicia Gill, and member Jerry Foltz were thrilled to witness the opening of the Sully Community Center this past Saturday, 9/17. Our club is a longtime proud supporter of WFCM and applaud the outstanding work being done in our community to help neighbors in need.

Our club's theme for this Rotary Year is "Rotary Connects through Community, Service, and Connections." For months with a 5th Tuesday, instead of our usual lunch meeting, we do "Members' Choice Tuesday." Club members have the option to attend an informal social event – like the Happy Hour pictured here! – or participate in any other service-type activity, such as visiting another Rotary club or serving the mission of a nonprofit cause.

Rotary Reaches…through services, connections, and community,
There was a lot of enthusiasm about our second field trip - mainly around "I didn't even know this was here!" Kiersten Fiore, FCPA, did a tremendous presentation about the programs offered at EC Lawrence Park, the pond you can fish in, and opportunities to rent Cabell's Mill for special events. The new education center by Cabell's Mill has an anticipated opening in February 2023. For those who were interested, Kiersten provided a brief walk about the property, as we learned more about the original house, smokehouse, beehives, and cow building. We are looking forward as Rotarians to build a partnership with the Park in support of their educational and natural presence in our community.

The Rotary Club of Centreville-Chantilly gathered July 26 after a wonderful presentation by Dr. Ted McCord, retired history professor, GMU, focused on the history of the oldest home in Centreville: Mt. Gilead. Members also enjoyed a tour of Mount Gilead, further understanding the home's roles as a tavern, headquarters during the American Civil War, and family home.

Margaret Behrns (seen here with Catherine Read) gave a wonderful presentation to our club about the Walk In My Shoes Program she founded in 2015. It's designed as an experiential program for children to better understand the challenges of people with disabilities. You can find out more at http://walkinmyshoesprogram.org

We loved hearing about the Walk In My Shoes Program today! Thank you Margaret Behrns. ^_^
