Home prices in DC’s suburbs keep climbing | WTOP

Home prices in Northern VA and Maryland rose substantially during 2020. A report comparing data from November 2020 vs. November 2019 shows a 20% increase in median sales price in Arlington County, 14% increase in Loudoun County, 9% increase in Prince William County, and 7% increase in Fairfax County. Arlington County remains the most expensive of the Washington D.C. suburbs with a median selling price of $660,000, as of November 2020.

Although numbers are not in yet for December, it looks like Fairfax will top Philadelphia for most 2020 home sales. Philadelphia took the crown in 2019. For the fifth consecutive year, conforming loan limits for mortgages that can be bought by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will increase. Consumer sentiment toward housing increased in 5 of 6 categories in Fannie Mae’s August Home Purchase Sentiment Index.

Consumers surveyed indicated more optimism over buying and selling with fewer concerns over job losses than the previous survey. Near record mortgage rates are helping to spur buyer optimism.
