1. Small Law Firm Symposium on Thursday, November 11th from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (in person or virtual). Alumni of sponsoring law schools are eligible to attend this program free of charge.

Students and alumni are invited to join the Office of Career & Professional Development for our NYC Law Department Information Session TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 10th at 12:30PM. The program will feature Nancy Goldbach ’90, who works with the Tort Division; Bridgette Nunez-Figueroa ’16, who works with the Special Federal Litigation Division; and Ryan Nasim ’16, who currently works with the Labor & Employment Law Division but has also worked with the Family Court Division and the Tort Division. This is a great introduction to the diverse litigation work of the New York City Law Department for students and alumni interested in government work and litigation!

ATTENTION STUDENTS AND ALUMNI: The Office of Career & Professional Development is excited to share that Touro Law Center students and alumni are now eligible to participate in the NYC Bar Association’s New Lawyer Institute at no cost to you.

The NYC Bar Association is one of the most active bar associations in the country, and offers its New Lawyer Institute during the summer and fall each year. This summer, programs are being offered in a virtual format, and students and alumni are encouraged to participate in these unique professional development and networking opportunities, even if you are not a member of the NYC Bar.

Touro Law Center students and alumni will be able to attend the following programs:

New Lawyer Institute Programs:
The New Lawyer Institute Committee is currently working on its program schedule for the summer and into the Fall. Below is a list of upcoming programs that have been planned. Please check the New Lawyer Institute website for additional information and programs.

The Bar Examination, Attorney Admissions and the Pandemic: A Conversation About Employment Issues for New Law Graduates in 2020 – TODAY (June 18) at 3:00 pm

Legal Writing for New Lawyers – Summer

Getting Admitted to the First/Second Department – Summer or Fall

Careers in Non-Profits/Careers in ADR/Careers in Emerging Practice Areas – Three programs planned for the Fall

Handling Student Debt – Fall

There are also a number of programs that took place over the past few weeks. Recordings of the programs and other NLI programs will be made available to students and alumni of sponsoring schools.

2020 Summer Series Programs:
Though the Summer Series programs will be held as Webcasts through Zoom, opening with a panel presentation and then break out into Zoom Rooms for networking with the panelists. Below is a list of the programs in the series.

Careers in Bankruptcy Law – July 21 | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Careers in Healthcare Law – July 28 | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Careers in Labor & Employment Law – August 4 | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

2020 BootCamp:
The Annual BootCamp will be held on November 4. The program may be able to be live at the Great Hall of the NYC Bar Association, but with all the uncertainty, they will also plan for this as a Webcast. The City Bar's annual BootCamp: Basic Training for Lawyers program is a full day that provides recent law graduates and current law school students with career planning information and skill building. The programming focuses on helping attendees assess their skills, assess the market and get practice ready.

Additional Opportunities:
In addition to the programs described above, the New Lawyer Institute includes personal assistance with committee placement, One-on-One Mentoring, free access to the City Bar Speaker Series, and Small Group Mentoring Circles.

UPCOMING VIRTUAL PROGRAM: OCPD will discuss our 2020 Fall Recruitment Program, which is composed of On-Campus Interviews (OCI) and Resume Collection, on Monday, April 27th at 12:45 pm and 5:30 pm.

During Fall Recruitment, employers interview returning Touro students during the Fall 2020 semester for Summer 2021 and post-graduate positions. This program will discuss the types of employers who participate, the application process, and tentative deadlines for students interested in participating in our Fall 2020 Recruitment Program.
