Jon Stewart says “most despicable” part of GOP blocking a health care benefits to veterans was watching them celebrate.

I don't like to make political posts on the church website - but this is a moral outrage - Senators of one political party applauding one another for beating down a bill to offer greater health care and benefits to VETERANS.
This is Jon Stewart's reaction - educate yourself on this;

Jon Stewart says “most despicable” part of GOP blocking a health care benefits to veterans was watching them celebrate. The most despicable part of this whole thing is watching on the senate floor, Ted, Cruz, fist-pumping, and then patting each other on the back. When they blocked this bill, Josh Hawley and Pat Toomey celebrating their victory over veterans with cancer, way to go guys. You finally handed it to Big ve...

"Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God." -Romans 5:1-2

Words are insufficient in these times. Our children are perishing, our grandmothers, too, and our teachers are traumatized over and over again. Lord, we need your mercy and a dispatch of your healing angels. Whom shall You send? Send us, Lord. Send us.

Happy Sunday!

04/02/2022

Please read and consider one way you can adopt a practice on Easter Sunday (this was written by another Disciple Sr Leader, so copy and pasted):

1. If you are able-bodied, please consider NOT parking in the nearest parking spaces, leave those spaces for our guests and the mobility-challenged.

2. Be extra-alert for folks who are looking tentative, shy, scared, or lost. Without “smothering” them, go up to them, welcome them. Answer their questions (or find someone who can); share your excitement about what’s going on at First Christian!

3. Be extra-alert for folks with children, be sure they know there children are welcome to utilize the space at the back of the sanctuary.

4. If you see folks you don't know, introduce yourself. If they tell you they've been members for years, say something like "Great! It's good to finally get to meet you in person; I'm glad our paths have crossed" or some such. Don't be embarrassed to mistake a long-time participant for a new visitor - instead be excited for how God is moving among us!

5. You may find that there are folks inhabiting "your" pew. Simply be delighted about that - and keep on walking with a smile on your face for the gift of new faces among us!

6. Speaking of pews, please sit to the front, leaving the rearward pews for visitors. If there are “new” folks sitting by themselves, join them in the pew.

7. And let’s remember the rule we’ve tried to live by: No complaining on Sundays. You may have an important concern or complaint that you need to share with leadership; but Sunday worship is not the time to do that. That’s not what we want to share with our guests – and they WILL pick up such things. Wait until Monday. Sunday is for worshiping and sharing the grace of God.

8. And maybe most important of all: We love seeing our friends at church - these are folks who bless our lives. But on Easter or ANY Sunday, if you are EVER faced with the choice between having that conversation with a friend versus greeting and having a conversation with a visitor, choose the visitor!!! After all, you can have those conversations with friends another time, but YOUR conversation with that visitor may make the difference in whether he or she ever returns or not, or experiences in a tangible way the love of God!

In Matthew 25, Jesus reminds us all that He will call us truly blessed when we respond excitedly and eagerly to his reminder that “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” May we be eager to be blessed by those who will come our way, and may we indeed be a blessing to them.
