A huge congratulations to our Registered Dietitian @kaciepoll on accepting a full-time position with James Madison University and their football program. Kacie has done a phenomenal job integrating nutrition with our athletes. She will be missed by the team and all of the athletes she has helped!

With that being said, we are now looking to add a Sports Dietitian to our team! If you are or anyone you know may be interested, feel free to DM us for more details!

Introducing ROI’s 1st ever Athlete of the Month, Sophia Garrison!

Sophia was born in New Mexico and spent several years in Kentucky before eventually moving here to Texas. She recently graduated from Hill Country Christian School of Austin and has earned a scholarship to the University of Alabama for swimming! Sophia has been swimming since she was just 7 years old. Her primary strokes are sprint breaststroke and individual medley.

How has training with ROI helped Sophia?

Undergoing a running analysis is a way of understanding and interpreting those unique movements, and it can help accomplish one or all of the following:

- Improve efficiency and form
- Understand current injury
- Reduce risk of future injury

We utilize DorsaVi wearable sensors to gather limb symmetry, ground reaction force, peak acceleration, ground contact time, cadence, & speed!

1. Make and Keep a Running List - Having a list keeps you on track for success by helping you avoid unnecessary purchases and save money. This decreases impulse buys and excess spoilage!

2. Don't Fear the Middle Aisles - Shopping the perimeter is not the only place where you will find fresh, nutrient dense foods, like produce, dairy and lean proteins. The middle aisles are stocked with fiber rich grains, legumes, spices/seasonings that are a key part to a balanced healthy diet and to fuel workouts!

3. Buy in Bulk - Buying shelf stable products in larger quantities (pasta, rice, beans, lentils, frozen veggies, fruits, meats) provide a healthy balanced diet and also enable you to shop less often while saving you money!

What is Physical Stress Theory?
The theory's premise describes "the changes in the relative level of physical stress cause a predictable adaptive response in all biological tissue." There are four thresholds of adaptation listed from low stress to high stress: Decreased Tolerance, Maintenance, Increased Tolerance, and Injury. Depending on your training (or lack thereof), these thresholds can increase or decrease.

What are its implications on rehabilitation?
Following an injury or surgery, the athlete's involved tissue (ligament, tendon, muscle, etc.) has a lowered threshold and the amount of stress placed on the affected tissue was managed appropriately to optimize rehabilitation and recovery. Our Doctora-educated Physical Therapists utilize this theory with their extensive experience to maximize performance and recovery even in the acute phases of rehab. They will prescribe appropriate exercises that place adequate stress on the healing tissues, while also addressing other areas of athletic performance to make the transition back to sport as smooth as possible.

With BFR, athletes can lift lighter weights while decreasing the overall load that the muscle and joint is put under, while achieving the same results as traditional weight training. This leads to less muscle damage and an increased rate of recovery, so you can get back to performing at your optimal level!
