The last 4 weeks were wonderful time with the Art & Meditation classes. We had a wonderful time and incredible discussions about life in “The Way of Christ.” Here are some pics. Thanks to all who attended.

The sermon this week is from John 12:20-33. The title "A Secret About Life." We will look at how difficult times in our lives can sometimes equip us to help others. Key Verse is, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24).

This Sunday the Title of the sermon is “Racism, Deacons & Basketball.” Jesus cleanses the Temple while challenging the system.
John 2:13-22.

We had a great art and meditation class tonight. We will meet the next three Wednesday’s at 6:30PM. Come join us. Please message me and let me know if you plan to come.

This Sunday's sermon will be about how mountain top experiences transform us and prepare us to meet the needs of others we can serve on our journey. The text is Luke 9:28-36. Hope to see you there. Worship is at 10:30.

Wednesday at 6 PM we will have our Ash Wednesday service as we head into Lent. This is a beautiful service as we lovingly reflect on where we are in our journey in The Way of Christ.

The title for the sermon this week is "All That Nonsense!" The Scripture is Luke 14:15-24 which screams to us, "EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THE TABLE!!!" Come join us for worship.

This Sunday 2/11/24 will be a celebration of Black History Month and the inclusiveness of God's Love for all people. Please Join us for a wonderful time of worship at 10:30 AM.

Special day at Church of Savior today sharing Agape Luncheon. We were grateful for making new memories with Rev. Mark and our church family. Special thanks to Helen Wright for setting up and beautiful decorations. And also thanks for everyone making delicious food and helping with cleaning up. Look at all these smiling faces after spending time together.

This table of candles was from last Sunday, Nov 5,2023, All Saints’ Sunday. A great celebration of all the saints in our lives who are no longer with us! Thank you, Pastor Mark, for allowing us to honor our loved ones in this special way!

Thank you Sarah for your service to Church of the Savior. We hope you feel special.

Hi Y'all,
With our esteemed Associate Pastor Sarah sadly gone I will now be in charge of the FB account. I will post things regularly and try to keep everyone updated on what is going on in our Church. We have had several guests lately and will be receiving a new member who will join and be baptized in the near future. Please come and invite your friends to a place that “No Matter Who You Are or Where You Are on Life’s Journey, You’re Welcome Here!!!“
Rev. Dr. Mark

A message from our new pastor, Rev Dr Mark !
Dear Church Family,

What an incredible honor and joy it was to have my first Sunday as your new pastor. It was even more exciting that we ran out of bulletins and had a great crowd inclusive of my wonderful wife Rev. Brenda and my daughter Caitlin. I am also thankful for the beautifully delicious cake we enjoyed while fellowshipping. I want to give a special thanks to Rev Sarah and everyone who made this worship possible. I have been spending my time this week getting my office ready and trying to acclimate myself to the way the church operates. I have also been looking around the facilities and believe we have a great building suitable for growth.
What I really wanted to share is that I would like to meet all the church members over the next month or so. I will be in the office several hours a week and it would be easier for me to meet at the church. If that is not feasible for you, I can come by your home. I want to know my members better. I hope you will take me up on this offer to share your story and your hopes for the church. Reach out, and we can set a time to meet.
I leave you with these thoughts from one of my favorite authors Soren Kierkegaard as we move forward together. “To dare is to lose ones footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself.”

Rev. Dr. Mark

This Sunday Rev. Dr. Mark Dowell, and his wife Rev. Brenda, will lead us in worship on Pastor Mark's first official Sunday as the pastor of Church of the Savior. What a reason to celebrate! After a long search process, we are thrilled to welcome Mark and his family to our COTS family. Join us on Sunday for worship and to show the Dowell's a big church welcome! 💕🙏🏻✝️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

This week, Church of the Savior officially voted to welcome our new head pastor, Rev. Dr. Mark Dowell to the COTS family!
It was also Father's Day last Sunday.
On Monday our nation honored Juneteenth - a new federal holiday, long overdue, celebrating the arrival of the news of the Emancipation Proclamation to Galveston.
Yesterday was the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, where we celebrated with a thunderstorm.
And we're still in the midst of PRIDE month.
There has been much to celebrate this week!
Join us as we gather together again this Sunday in celebration, anticipation for what is to come, and holding one another in our trials and tribulations.
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here 🙏🏻💕✝️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️.

Join us this Sunday, where all are welcome! At Church of the Savior, we celebrate all of God’s children, born in the image of the Creator. Come and worship at 10:30am! 💕🙏🏻🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

This week Pastor Sarah received an email from an incredible business called Outrun the Dark. They're an athletic clothing company committed to spreading awareness about mental health, and utilizing running as a means to improve mental health.
Here's what they said:

"Sometimes we need a reminder that the journey we are on has ups and downs, and having bad days, and failing at something, is all part of it. Whether it's going for a promotion at work and not getting it, or going for a personal record in a race and telling all your friends, only to run out of fuel and crashing and burning halfway, or having days when it's a struggle just to get out of bed...

It's important to remember:

You still did the thing. You still (eventually) got up out of bed. You still went for it, and you got through it. Bad days will come, and it's okay. Your success rate of getting through bad days is still an immaculate 100%."
So dear friends, remember... your success rate for getting through bad days is 100%. You deserve to celebrate that fact and know that each and everyday, you are deeply held, loved, and embraced by the Creator.

On Sunday, during our Christian Ed/Learning Time, we discussed the question of why we worship. Why do we join together each Sunday and gather in community to worship our Lord? So many in our culture don't go to church, experiencing God in other ways or not at all. What is the purpose of communal worship?
This community we share at Church of the Savior, this place of palpable love, is the epitome of God's call for our life. As a trinitarian God, God is in fact a relationship, and we are called into that relationship while living in relationship with one another.
Join us as we gather this Sunday in that relationship - the one with our God and the one with each other.
This is why we worship: to experience the relational God embodied.
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here 🙏🏻💕✝️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️.

He is Risen! ✝️
A wonderful Easter celebration we shared last Sunday. This week we continue the celebration with this second Sunday of Easter. Join us as we gather together to share in the resurrection of our Christ!
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here 💕🙏🏻🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈.

Holy Week is upon us.
We gather this week to celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Throughout this week, we take time to wash each other's feet, humbling ourselves to serve the other. Then we fall into the deep darkness with Christ, as we honor the crucifixion, letting ourselves feel the weight of his death. And we end our week in celebration, as we recognize that death does not have the last word, and through Christ, light and life will always overcome.
Join us as we gather together during this holiest of all weeks!
Good Friday Service: 7pm
Easter Service: 10:30am
All are welcome here 💕🙏🏻🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday--the beginning of Holy Week. This is the day we walk into the sanctuary holding palms, as we remember Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. As our Psalm for Sunday says, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Let us celebrate in joy on Sunday, as we prepare for the holiest of weeks to come.
Join us! No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey you are welcome here 💕🙏🏻✝️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️.

"Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones..."
This 5th Sunday of Lent, we walk with Ezekiel through the valley of bones, where "the breath came into them, and they lived". Then we meet Jesus, who raises Lazarus from the dead, saying to Martha, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”
As we approach Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, we clearly see the foreshadowing of what is to come on Easter day.
Join us! No matter where you are on life’s journey you are welcome here 💕🙏🏻✝️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈.
