When asked why she attended soccer practice instead of hanging out with her friends and chasing boys, one of our Driven Queens answered:

“After playing football at Driven, I started watching the national team play on TV. I realized that if they could do it, I could also do it. I began to work hard and realized that I’m good at this. This could make my life go somewhere.”

Instead of getting pregnant, the biggest threat of poverty against girls ages 14-20, our 50 girls are:

Our Friday Talks are exposing over 100 children in the deepest of Kabwe’s slums to testimonies, careers, possibilities and dreams that they have *never* heard of before!! 🤩😍🤩

Mr. Kumwenda owns the print shop Driven uses for all of our materials. 📝

He shared with the children this month about how dreams, his dream, are realized “Little by little…”, day by day, one right thing after another. 💪🏾

“This is just my testimony,” he said. “I have not achieved anything more than any of you will achieve. You can do better. Just do what is right. When you do what is right, you will be able to excel. Let us be examples.” — Mr. Kumwenda

Because our Feeding Program has DOUBLED this year!! 🙌🏼🙌🏾🙌🏿

Not only are we still providing:
🥜 Daily snacks at Soccer Practice
🍽 Game day meals to 76 players
🍎 Food as needed to struggling families
🪦 Staple foods in bulk for funerals

We’ve also started:
🥪 Offering lunch daily at Driven Center so anyone who won’t otherwise eat that day can come and have a meal
🌽 Having food on standby to give immediately to those in need

We have 80-140 kids in attendance of our programs daily! 😃 That’s a lot of food! 🙊

Leo shared the Gospel with the 85 children in attendance, leading about 15 of them to make decisions to follow Jesus… ❤️🖤🧡

As a reward for a season well done, our Driven 🌟 SuperStars 🌟 coaches and team took a field trip to the Zambia vs Comoros Africa World Cup Qualifying game in Lusaka!! 🇿🇲 ⚽️ 🇰🇲

Our team finished 3rd place in FAZ Division III league this season after sitting on top for a while and fighting hard for that position!! 🥇🥈🥉

We are so proud of their character and integrity, their hard work and determination, and their growth both personally and as a team! 👏🏼👏🏾👏🏿

🚫 “Girls don’t play football.” 🚫

When Bertsheba starting playing football at Driven’s Center, her mother would come to the field looking for her and chase her home. She was not allowed to play soccer.

Over the next few years, as Bertsheba became a coveted player on our team and in our league, after a lot of assurance from our coaches of what we were doing at Driven, and even sponsoring her schooling, Bertsheba’s mom became a fan. ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿

When Bertsheba won 🏆 Player of the Season 🏆 last year, her mom was there to support and celebrate with her, thanking Driven for all we had done to invest in Bertsheba’s life. 🫶🏾

At Driven, while girls ARE playing ⚽️soccer ⚽️, they are NOT 👏🏾 dropping out of school, 👏🏾 getting pregnant, or 👏🏾 becoming child brides.

This month’s Friday Talk welcomed Nellie Tembo from Kabwe’s own Caleb Centre, the only school for disabled children that specializes in Autism in Zambia. 💙💙💙

More than 120 children heard, for the very 👏🏼 first 👏🏾 time👏🏿, that people with disabilities are not less than or cursed, but deserving and desiring love just like everyone else.

A Special Needs parent herself, Nellie knew exactly how to get at the heart of the matter and offered a very thorough, very candid presentation on how we are to live, support, and love one another as a community: 💞

“We as a community, we can learn to treat those people differently [than society does]. We become each other’s keeper. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

“We are to love one another. Show the same love in your homes and in your community. ♥️💙♥️💙

“Can you be a support system to such people? Love them. Let them win.” 🫶🏾

We are SO proud of Driven Queens’ very own Bethsheba, Emeldah and Patience for making the Central Province’s Under 17 Inter-Provincial Team!!! 🌟

After a week of tryouts, of the 15 girls selected from all over Central Province (equivalent to a state in the USA) three players came from Driven Football Club!! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

These girls will play against the other Provinces of Zambia. ⚽️

Rewarding their achievement, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) took them today to meet the Provincial Minister and the Permanent Secretary (think Congressman and Representative)!! ⚖️

The diligence, commitment and integrity of our coaches, staff and players are creating opportunities for these kids that might otherwise see very little outside of their own compound. 👏🏼👏🏾👏🏿

Our Women’s Soccer Coach, Julius, is currently attending a month-long cloistered coaches’ training with Ubabalo Curriculum that specializes in “whole life coaching”, training coaches to assume a father-figure role in the lives of vulnerable and fatherless children.

In an effort to combat high infant mortality rates, Zambia instituted a program several years ago of regular check ups, weighing sessions, and vaccines for infants and children under 5.

Many of the families in Makululu behind Driven live too far from the clinic to get these regular check ups for their young children. We partnered with a local clinic to provide a space where they could provide these check ups to these families.

More than 300 moms brought their children under 5 to Driven’s property to get health check ups today that they wouldn’t have otherwise had access to!!! 👏🏼

We are thrilled to partner with and serve the community in this new way! 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Driven Int’l Ministries was a sponsor at the Caleb Centre Run for Autism this weekend. (Zoom in on the back of the white t-shirt! 👏🏼)

The Caleb Centre is the only school of its kind, for children with autism, in Zambia!

We are happy to partner with local organizations working hard together to spread the love of Jesus and make Zambia a better place to be. 💙

Bridget and Dorcus were the first two girls we sponsored for school who didn’t attend our Sports Ministry. ⚽️

Leshiwe, their mom (right), met us at our field one day. “My children don’t come here, but I know you’re in the community to help.” 🙌🏼🙌🏾🙌🏿

She told us how her husband just left them and agreed to pay rent for one more month before they were in their own. 😔

“I don’t know how we will survive, but all I need now is to keep them in school.” 🙏🏼

Both girls are excellent students and education is a priority in their family, unlike so many other families in Makululu. 👏🏼👏🏾👏🏿

We covered their school fees and uniforms and supplies for the year. 📚

Soon after, when we started our feeding program, we offered the job to Leshiwe first to cook the snacks during the week and meals on game days. 🍳

Today, this family has the job and dignity to support themselves, and her girls are on track to break the cycle of poverty for the next generation through education. ⛓

Covid 😷 has been rough on Makululu. Not physiologically, but economically. Our people are struggling. 😔

Schools are still out 📚, except for testing, and FAZ (Football Association of Zambia) ⚽️ won’t let us gather yet.

But we wanted to help... 🤔

Today, we got to pass out 80 (25kg) bags of meal 🌽 to the 80 families whose children 🏃🏾 participate in Driven’s Sports Ministry. 🌟

We wanted to communicate that, though we can’t meet up and haven’t seen them in a while, we are still thinking of them and we’re here to help. 💗

We are having an intensive 5-day leadership training 💪🏼 next week AND hosting it at Driven’s Maplehurst Guesthouse 🏡 for 10 people.

It’s that time again. 🤓 The school year runs Jan-Nov here, so we’ve been paying school fees, buying backpacks 🎒, shoes 👞, and notebooks 📓 all week.

Driven covers school expenses of about 30 students who attend our Sports Ministry. ⚽️

A thank you letter from the HIV+ death row inmates. 💔

After facilitating several Leadership For Life programs 💪🏾among the death row inmates in Zambia’s maximum security prison ⛓, we were introduced to a group of men who were HIV+.

A proper diet increases the effectiveness of the ARVs 💊 that the prison provides, so we donate groceries monthly 🍅🍞🥦.

We recently received this letter:

“We write to thank you for the help you have been rendering to us. You have really inspired us and we are indeed moved even to double our efforts and do more in our mission. Your assistance will go a long way and we hope you will continue to offer help, advice and lift our spirits...” 🙏🏼🙏🏾🙏🏿

Our kids were fainting of hunger at soccer games. 😟

Seriously. This is what we’re working with. 🥺

A “maybe someday we can serve lunch” dream turned into “how do we figure this out before the game on Saturday”.

We hired an unemployed single mom of two of our sponsored girls to make snacks and lunches. 👏🏼👏🏾👏🏿

They had a pre-game snack and a big lunch after. 🥚🍞🍗

There are some projects we do that just fall into our laps. 👌🏼

Others seem like the next natural step. 👍🏼
