Why do I sound so bothered?🙃 Anyhooooo...a peek at what's in the case today.

Happy Earth Day everyone! We wanted to share with you some of the things we do every day to keep our planet in mind.

Using compostable and recyclable packaging: All of the food packaging we use is either recyclable or compostable, whether that be the box, tissue paper & bags, or even the compostable cutlery we give out. While it does cost us more effort and money to use eco-friendly packaging, it is absolutely worth it!

Sourcing products locally: Whenever at all possible, we try to source our products and supplies locally! This is important because a HUGE source of carbon emissions is from shipping things over a large distance. We also want to support local businesses, so sourcing locally is a win for everyone.

Bottles and cans: Instead of having plastic bottles for our drinks, we opted to go for glass and metal cans. Did you know that in the US, only 9% of plastic was actually recycled? Most plastics end up in the landfill rather than be used again. Glass can be recycled over and over again, compared to plastic which will degrade in quality each time. Please be sure to get your cans or bottles to the recycling bin whenever you can :-)

Eco-friendly cleaning supplies: Cleaning supplies are a must in any building to maintain a healthy environment, but certain cleaning supplies pose a threat to both the people inside and the environment. This is why we always opt for biodegradable and safer options whenever we are cleaning.

Be sure to celebrate the earth in whatever ways you can, every small contribution helps!

A little peek...

This week some of my "kids" fussed at me and it was the sweetest thing ever. They were upset that I was giving them holiday pay for Easter, and they didn't want me to worry about paying them when we weren't going to actually be working. I told them, but I'll say it for everyone. I happily pay them because they are worth it. They show up without fail, with a good attitude, ready to work. There is A LOT to learn in this job, and they are eager to make sure they get it right. For me and for the custumers. They are constantly looking for ways to make my day easier. They make sure I eat and take breaks. They accept whatever challenge I throw at them without complaint. I truly couldn't ask for a better group, and I am so incredibly thankful for them.

To highlight some of our menu pineapple upsidedown cake, coconut cake, and a couple of gluten-free options. You’ll have to come to visit and find out what else we are offering 😆

Today you can find us at two places! We will be at the Food & Flea Productions event and at our home base on Lake Pine Drive at the same time. Our booth in Downtown Cary will feature cupcakes, cookies, and lemon bars to name a few things. Our peanut butter cookies and oatmeal cookie sandwiches will be making a delicious appearance so be sure to check it out! You may have to look for us a little harder than usual this month since we are tucked away at the event, but we promise it will be worth the search. @townofcary

Slight adjustment to our schedule: Starting this week, we'll be closed on Monday and Tuesday. We'll take custom orders for these days as our schedule allows, but we'll mostly use these days for planning, prep for the week, and rest. You can still come get your treats Wednesday-Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 12-6.

A portion of Saturday's proceeds will be going to non-profit Horse and Buddy. Below is a little bit more about their work:

@horseandbuddy is an equine therapy non-profit based in New Hill, North Carolina, The organization works to enrich the lives of children and adults with special needs (known to the organization as “riders”) through equine-assisted therapies in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment. Horse and Buddy has helped riders within the program see improvements in both their physical strength and self-confidence, and has served over one hundred riders in just the past year. The organization also hosts team-building and mindfulness retreats on their sprawling grounds, which consists of lush fields, multiple walking trails and a barn. Although impacted heavily by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Horse and Buddy has found a way to continue changing lives within our local community.
