Fun fact of the Day in 1867 the number of horses and mules went from 7.8 million to 25 million in 1920, this happend due to motor vehicles. In 1884 there were approximately 15.4 million horses in the U.S. In 1987, there were approximately 6.6 million horses in the U.S. By 1991, the number dropped to 4.9 million.

Did you know that in 2008 Chris graduated from Cornell University after completing the General Farrier Course. The General Farrier Course is a 16 week program that provides students with knowledge of related anatomy, fundamental aspects of shoeing, and fabrication of shoes. While enrolled in the program Chris spent 25 hours of studying anatomy of the horses foot, 30 hours studying theory of therapeutic shoeing, he completed 30 hours of forge work, and spent 200 hours trimming, fitting, and nailing shoes. Chris even had the opportunity to work on reindeer!

Pictured are concave shoes on a thoroughbred mare. Why use concave shoes? Concave shoes are a suitable option for sport horses. The amount of grip the horse receive from concave shoes can drastically improve their performance.
