I am Toby Ogden Photography and I photograph and film weddings, commercial, and lifestyle events. I've been a photographer and film maker for over 25 years.

Wherever I go, I have a camera in my hand to capture the moment. Tobias grew up in North County San Diego and has spent most of his life in the ocean surfing as he still does today. He started his photography career after transitioning from a professional surfer athlete to becoming an athlete marketing manager and then finally landing the job as a staff photographer with a major lifestyle brand. Engagement session at Sunset Cliffs. I’ve photographed a wedding here at this spot and now this session. One of my favorite new session spots. Has a ton of variety.

Experience changes how you see a wedding day.

You anticipate moments.
You read the room.
You know when to step in and when to step back.

That’s what I bring to the couples that choose to have me capture their once in a life time moments.

i was actually shooting video this day with lovely couple. Ilke and Jeff at This is a film photo I could not help but take it. I got started with photography in circa 2000! Over 25 years ago. I’ve been focused on weddings since around 2010. Point is that I got started right when digital came out. I dabbled in film off and on throughout my photography journey and got really into over the last 5 years. There is something about a film photo that makes it just a little more special. It’s not perfect but it was a photo that was very much thought about. I think about the light more and the composition and the settings and most importantly the moment. Most digital photos can be fixed up no matter how bad they are. With film the forgiveness has a small window. There’s no bringing in more light for an under exposed image or if it’s blown out, you can’t find the details ever again. That moment passes and by the time you take another photo the moment is gone. There’s no shooting into the sun. There’s no auto ISO when there is low light. Everything you do for that 1 photo requires you to be present and to be with full intention. Then you can’t do some test shots and make adjustments. The list goes on and on about how you have to actually be a good photographer to nail good film photos. I shoot film photos to become better at taking digital photos. I do it to keep me grounded and to not just rely on this AI world to do it all for me. I do it to hold myself accountable to be the best I can be. I got a lot more to say but I’m sure nobody has read this far. Ha. But if you like film please share this. Or if I am missing something please let me know. What do you like or not like about film.

What’s it actually like to work with me?

You won’t be micromanaged.
You won’t feel rushed.
You won’t be stuck in poses that don’t feel natural.

You’ll feel calm.
You’ll feel taken care of.
You’ll feel like you can just be in the moment.

My job isn’t to control your day.
It’s to protect the energy of it.

Getting ready is where the story starts — and it sets the tone for everything.

Would you rather your morning feel calm… or chaotic?

This is what it looks like when a couple stays present and lets the day be real.
No forcing. No over-posing. Just honest moments that actually mean something.

What matters more to you in photos — moments or details?
