It's Hall of Fame Week! Tune into PBS Western Reserve Tuesday (Aug. 3) at 10PM (EST) to see the story of HOF Class of 1968 member Marion Motley. (It will re-air throughout the month, so check the listings.)
In honor of Black History Month, PBS Western Reserve will have an early airing of our documentary “Lines Broken: The Story of Marion Motley” on Feb. 5. If you’re unaware of who Marion was, he was “Jim Brown before Jim Brown,” and was one of four African-Americans who broke pro football’s color barrier in 1946.
I had a great time shooting and cutting this behind the scenes look at my friend Sean McArdle 's short film Swerve that’s based on the comic book of the same name. The film stars All Elite Wrestling stars Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian Official and Scorpio Sky of SCU, along with Championship Wrestling from Hollywood's & United Wrestling Network's Eric Watts. If you look carefully, you can see that John from Mongoose Films is flying a drone for a cable TV project in Middle Tennessee. It was great working with Mongoose Films and everyone involved!
Pro football probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to a "triple crown."
Before Art Shell became the NFL's first African American head coach of the Modern Era, there was Fritz Pollard.
Bill Willis was one of the first 4 African American players to reintegrate pro football in 1946 when he joined the Cleveland Browns.
FCM produced several short videos on African American pioneers in professional football. Marion Motley not only helped reintegrate the game, but became one of the greatest to ever play it.
