Please find attached an invitation to attend a "come and go" reception and viewing of The Journey to Reconciliation's second installation: The Jim Crow Era.

This interactive timeline is on display at the Taylor County High School Library is a tool to educate and facilitate discussion about African American History in and around Taylor County.

The first installment of the Journey timeline displayed stories and facts from 1619 through the Civil War. This second installment picks up at post war Reconstruction, and takes viewers through the early 1960's. The third installation will cover the Civil Rights Era and is expected to be on display in late April.

The exhibit was made possible through grant funding from, The 400 Years African American History Commission, a federally appointed committee, operating independently as established by the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and administered by the National Park Service.

Subsequent Presidents continued to proclaim a National Women’s History Week in March until 1987 when Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating March as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”

The National Women’s History Alliance selects and publishes the yearly theme. The theme for Women's History Month in 2021 captures the spirit of these challenging times. Since many of the women's suffrage centennial celebrations originally scheduled for 2020 were curtailed, the National Women's History Alliance is extending the annual theme for 2021 to "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.

Visit womenshistory.org for curated videos, articles, photos and other materials celebrating all the women who have changed the narrative for our nation. #womenhistorymonth #valiantwomenofthevote #refusingtobesilenced

Misinformation is everywhere. How can you combat this digital epidemic?
.
.
Read below to learn about deepfakes—deep fakes are videos made with AI (artificial intelligence) which allow for anyone to become anyone else on video. *gasp*
.
.
Scary, huh?
.
.
Even when they aren’t making synthetic videos, they can recycle old videos and photos and they can become viral as if it were more recent. #repost @mozilla #misinformationmonday #misinformation #deepfakes #tchslibrarycards #tclibrarycards #digitalcitizenship

Bookstr

If you’ve only watched the Harry Potter films, you are missing out crucial details that explain events only briefly touched on in the movies. Story lines were cut for the sake of length, and characters and their development were seriously watered down.

Challenge yourself to begin the series, which are available on MackinVIA (ebooks) or check out the physical books in the library. #thebookwasbetter

Just look into our Pensieve to see some of these differences!

Brought these back into the library after reading over the summer.
.
.
Three excellent novels for three very different reasons.
.
.
#oneofusisnext is a continuation from Karen McManus’s novel #oneofusislying and does not disappoint on the suspense.
Mix the “anonymous messenger” aspect of “Pretty Little Liars” and “Gossip Girl” and you get this mystery.
.
#dearmartin covers powerful topics such as racism and prejudice through the eyes of a young black man. We see the struggle of a bright young man with a good head on his shoulders, and the forces that push him in two very different paths. It really brought to light the issues among our country today and made me evaluate prejudices I may have unintentionally had before.
.
.
#jackpot was written by #nicstone the very same author of “Dear Martin.” What would you do with lottery winnings? Over one hundred six million to be exact? What would you do, especially, if you were a teenager and had to help (financially) keep a roof over your head and food in your (and your younger sibling’s) belly? Highlighting issues of poverty, entitlement, socioeconomic status, romance, pride, and race—“Jackpot” was a book I raced through to find out just what Rico would do with that much money if she found it.

I’m bringing these works home to read and study, and to learn about a life different than mine.

Patrons, Mary Pope Osborne, author of the Magic Tree House series, once stated that, “Reading is the basic springboard for learning. And books provide the liftoff. They are the great equalizer, opening up new worlds to everyone.”

In our library, we have a vast assortment of texts that can open up a world unknown to you. Thanks to books, we can all learn from one another.

I cannot wait to start putting books back into your hands, my patrons.

In most of your English classes, you may have been asked to cite your sources in MLA format. In others, like science (for research) you may have been asked to write your sources in APA. .
.
.
So what’s the difference?! Why do you use one and not the other? .
.
MLA’s (Modern Language Association) focus is to teach a citation style and format to understand that there is a uniform method for writing papers. APA (American Psychological Association), and sometimes Chicago (mostly when researching history) is uniform to citing research-based studies. .
.
.
The discipline decides the style. #apa #mla #chicago #research #citations #citing #librariesofinstagram #tchs #tchslibrarycards
