Be A Bookworm provides books to kids of disadvantaged backgrounds -- books that inspire, teach positive values, and encourage the love of reading.

Our Story

Recognizing that many children in Orange County, CA do not have adequate access to books, our founders began donating children’s books to homeless shelters, transitional housing facilities and community service centers in 2019. Soon we were becoming aware of further needs. We formed Be A Bookworm in 2021 to address these needs. Be A Bookworm has applied for 501 (c) (3) nonprofit public benefit charity status, and is run entirely by volunteers.

Be A Bookworm began a 3- year program in partnership with the Anaheim Elementary School District to build home libraries for preschool children at Edison Elementary School. It started with 86 kids receiving a bag of 10 new books in January. Each child will get over 30 books during their two years in preschool. When they reach kindergarten, the program will compare school performance of the Bookworm kids with their peers to measure the academic success of the program.
