CVMC began vaccinating Vermonters age 75 and older today! We’ll offer 50 appointments per day until we open our larger off-site clinic. R.D. Eno of Cabot and Freddie Mahlmanr of Waitsfield were some of our first recipients. Both expressed a desire to reunite in person with friends and family once the pandemic was over.

"Did you see my t-shirt," R.D. asked. "Crabby Jack's is my daughter's favorite restaurant in New Orleans." As the Chair of Cabot Arts, Inc. and resident banjo player, R.D is also looking forward to music festivals and live performances Harry's Hardware & The Den.

Freddie, a retired Harwood Unified Union School District teacher, is looking forward to seeing her niece and husband, who live in New Hampshire. "I feel fortunate and grateful for what I have, and being able to go outside for walks and skiing," says Freddie. "But, I sure miss seeing friends." She looks forward to a day when she can watch movies at Waitsfield's The Big Picture again.

A collection of art from Susan Bull Riley entitled "A Celebration of Seasons" hangs in the background.
Since the expansion of Everyone Eats distribution, Harry's Hardware & The Den located in Cabot has prepared over 3,200 meals for Vermonters and through their own donated time and resources, made and distributed free holiday meals this past Christmas.

Co-owners Alia Clary and Johanna Thibault were in for a surprise when they were hit with the restaurant shutdown just 6 weeks after opening their newly renovated kitchen. The impressively unique hardware store/bar combo is known for its family-friendly environment, and welcomed live music every weekend. Alia and Johanna say they were lucky to have the storefront to help keep them afloat through the shutdown.

By being a part of the Everyone Eats program or as Harry’s likes to call it, “Feed the People”, they were able to keep their kitchen open and continue employing their chef Kathryn Hansis while doing work and making meals they knew their community needed. Even before the expansion of the program, Harry’s Hardware was looking for ways they could join or do something similar on their own, citing their hearts of service and love for the village of Cabot. With the end of the program’s funding, Harry’s said they are already brainstorming ways they can continue to provide for the community outside of Everyone Eats.

Harry’s Hardware is ecstatic to see the number of businesses supporting local farmers and producers through this program and hopes more will continue to do so even after it ends. Joining Everyone Eats has been very rewarding for Harry’s Hardware because of the support they were able to provide to the community while also getting support through federal funding- a win-win for all.

If you’ve never been to Harry’s Hardware, it’s a classic “only in Vermont” institution doing great work for their community. Please support them if you can!

We can’t argue with the facts as presented by The Boston Globe – fall in Vermont is the best time of year. Thanks for pinpointing some of the most fun, delicious, unique and cherished parts of Vermont, including Shacksbury, Mountain View Inn Bed & Breakfast, Harry's Hardware & The Den, Cabot Creamery Co-operative, The Starry Night Cafe and Eden Ciders. On day four of the NRHA New England Road Trip, retail outreach coordinator Renee Changnon visited four different operations throughout New Hampshire and into Vermont.

The stores visited during the day included East Coast Lumber in East Hampstead, New Hampshire; Edmunds Ace Hardware in Antrim, New Hampshire; Gilford True Value and Gilford Home Center located in Gilford, New Hampshire and then ended the evening at Harry's Hardware & The Den, where I enjoyed live music and Vermont beer.
