HR leaders: How are you measuring recovery culture in your organization right now?
Not in a formal survey. In the day-to-day signals.
Are people taking their full lunch breaks? Are managers logging off at reasonable hours? When someone returns from vacation, do they come back rested, or do they come back apologizing for having been gone?
These are not wellness metrics. They are operational indicators. They tell you whether your organization has the conditions in place for people to sustain performance through the second half of the year — or whether you're running on reserves that are quietly depleting.
The summer months are when recovery culture either gets reinforced or erodes. HR has a direct role in which one happens.
If you want support building the internal frameworks and leader conversations that make recovery culture real — not just a policy — that's exactly the kind of work The Flourish Group does. [LINK]
I want to give every leader reading this one thing they can do today.
Ask someone on your team:
"What's making your work harder than it needs to be right now?"
Then stop talking.
Not to defend, not to explain, not to immediately solve. Just to hear.
I've used this question with leaders and teams across healthcare, education, construction, and corporate environments. The answers are almost always a version of the same things: unclear expectations, inconsistent communication, workloads that haven't been named out loud, and feeling like no one at the top really knows what it's like.
Most of those things are fixable. But only once they're heard.
The leaders whose teams trust them most are not the ones who have all the answers. They're the ones who ask the right questions — and actually listen.
One question. This week. See what you learn.

The safety conversations most organizations have in June are important: physical protocols, incident reporting, summer heat precautions.
But there is a category of workplace risk that goes almost unaddressed every summer. And it costs organizations more than most leaders realize.
When summer schedules shift, workloads quietly spike. Communication becomes inconsistent. People feel unsupported but don't say so — because no one asked.
Psychological safety — the belief that you can speak up without penalty — drops during transitions. And when it drops, so do performance, retention, and team cohesion.
The good news: this is fixable. And it doesn't require a formal program.
It requires a leader who notices. Who asks. Who listens without immediately defending.
That's it. That's the intervention.
What transitions is your team navigating right now?

Burnout rarely announces itself. It shows up as friction, silence, and the slow disappearance of your best people's best work. If you're seeing any of these signs in your team right now, this is the moment to act — not wait. Save this and share it with a leader who needs it.
