Risen Runner
Faith-fueled endurance through daily discipline + body stewardship ✝️ ✨ 100M x 7 🏃♀️
A couple things that crossed my mind in this moment:
1. Wow, how blessed are we to have such a clear view of Denali. So many people never see it. Thank you, Jesus. 🩵
2. In a couple days, I’ll be running the Denali Highway from Paxton to Cantwell. Pretty much running to Denali National Park. That’ll be insane.
3. That’s gotta be 100 miles from where we’re standing. It’s so far… oh, it’s only half that? I’ll pretty much be running there and back and then some. Insane. Absolutely insane. But also how freakin’ cool!?
just a normal day driving around Alaska 🏔️
We later went to the Riverfront Park in Talkeetna and realized this one we saw here was actually Mt. Foraker. 🤦♀️ 🤣 We were blessed to have a crystal clear view though of Mt. Foraker, Mt. Hunter & Denali!
I am SO beyond excited for this race, but also - I actually can’t fathom what 35 extra miles is going to feel like. But Alaska seems like as good a place as any to find out! 🏔️ 🫎
Less than 3 weeks to recover my body from both Rabid Raccoon 100 + whatever mix of allergies/bronchitis I’ve got goin’ on 😷 😬 Let’s go 🔥

I really thought this would be the last year I’d probably run Rabid. Sometimes I feel like I’m getting kind of sick of running that loop over and over again in training and on race day 🤪
But I hate feeling like I could’ve done better - hard days aside.
So Rabid Raccoon 2027 - here I come. Who else is planning to run and what distance? 😁

I’d be remiss not to publicly thank my husband + crew chief for all that he does to support me. He shows up to every event with the mindset that if there’s no aid station, that’s okay. He’s got everything I could possibly need and then some, and he often shares what we have with other runners out on the course. He packs everything, does all the setup, shows up at every aid station and is my biggest supporter. From taking care of my feet to filling my ice hat, he does it all. He even made me custom signs (after getting a pair of Rockets, he now refers to me as that 🤣). I can’t imagine ever doing a race without him. Running 100 miles is hard, but Crewin’ Ain’t Easy either. Thank you for all that you do 🩷

Well that was miserable 🥴🤣 But I finished + that’s always my number 1 goal 🙌
I’ve run the Rabid Raccoon 100 three times now, and of those three times, there’s been NOT ONE where I have shown up in good health.
Year 1 - my first 100 miler ever. I woke up the morning of with a sore throat, finished with a fever and was sick for a few weeks following.
Year 2 - I was sick with the flu, immediately followed by a cough, for an entire month and half leading into race day. I woke up the morning of still coughing, and had a hard time out there with my stomach and DNF’d at mile 67.
And here we are at year 3. I’ve ran exactly twice in the entire month of May - one of which was Hills Creek 12 hour where I sprained my ankle and later learned I had a small chip fracture as well. Once my ankle was starting to feel good enough to run on again, I got this wicked cough 😷 that comes at least once or twice a year and lasts foreverrr. This time, it was worse though and after a few nights of not sleeping at all, I went to the doctor, who told me it’s allergies. So I’ve been on a bunch of allergy meds, but still nothing has stopped the cough. The whole week leading into Rabid, I got anywhere from 1-4 hours of sleep each night.
I probably should have just not ran it this year, but I’m stubborn and I trained for an entire year for this, you know?
So I ran it, and felt horribleeee the entire day 🤣
I actually was running fine, but I could not stop coughing, and I’d coughed so much that my airway felt restricted and my chest felt bruised. But one foot in front of the other, I kept going and found myself placed amongst the top 5-7 runners overall up until about 80 miles in I think. Then 💩 hit the fan, and I just felt absolutely dreadful all around. I think I didn’t eat enough, and was really struggling to get food in me, leaving me drained and feeling sick. The cough was taking a huge toll. I slowed down on the 6th of 8 loops hoping it would help, but I just kept feeling worse + the race turned into just finishing. I would’ve loved to have a better day, but some days are just like that 🤷♀️ I’m grateful for a body capable of doing hard things on hard days.

7th 100 Miler Loading ⏳
Who’s running Rabid Raccoon tomorrow? 🦝
So thankful that God blessed us with such beautiful weather today! I haven’t ran since Hills Creek 12 Hour Challenge two weeks ago, where I sprained my ankle. Today felt like such a gift - getting to run and explore some new areas while also being there to cheer on and support Aria in her three events. She had a rough start to the day, but she totally crushed the 800m and PR’d her 1500m. 👏 And I was super pleased with the miles I got in in the midst of it all. Most of all, I’m just insanely grateful for a healthy, fit and capable body. Thank you Jesus 🩷
T-2 weeks until Rabid Raccoon 100. 🦝
