Encounter Church

Comments

I was visiting Encounter in support of my niece who was getting baptized. What I found was a closer connection to Christ. That day nothing seemed to be going according to plan. The AC was out so it was decided to move the service outside. God was awesome in that he blessed us with shade and a breeze! It actually ended up being one of the most amazing sermons I had ever attended. Later when my niece was baptized and Pastor Scotty got to the last baptism scheduled for that day he opened it up for anybody to come into the pool. There I was in jeans and a shirt and a stirring in my soul said go into the water. I did! Baptized impromptu walking it out in faith! God is working through Encounter and I have never felt this closely connected to God in my life. Come see for yourself!
If you are feeling lost and have nowhere else to turn I highly recommend visiting Encounter Church! When I first came to Encounter I felt an instant connection to Christ! I felt like I had finally came home! So much so that I actually got baptized that very same day!
I and the EPIC Youth group would like to say thank you for allowing us to come and worship there Friday. Two gave their hearts to Jesus. God bless you all!

Encounter Church is a body of believers that have no walls, sometimes we meet in the Crewe Va. park and other times we meet in different homes throughout Nottoway County.

This is what our church service looks like. I imagine it is much like the New Testament church experienced as they gathered together to truly study God’s word. I love our format as we dive into the scripture together and share our spiritual gifts as a church body.

Easter Sunday Church in the Park

Join us on Sunday, April 17th at 10:45 at the park in Crewe. Bring a lawn chair. Let’s celebrate our risen Savior!!!

Our Sunday gatherings may not look like most gatherings, but there is no denying the Holy Spirits moving within us today!

Starting with a blank notebook or whiteboard and following the spirits led today was truly a blessing for us all.

1 Corinthians 12:12

One Body with Many Members

[12] For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

The Question that Changed My Life
By David Ryser

A number of years ago, I had the privilege of teaching at a school of ministry. My students were hungry for God, and I was constantly searching for ways to challenge them to fall more in love with Jesus and to become voices for revival in the Church.

I came across a quote attributed most often to Rev. Sam Pascoe. It is a short version of the history of Christianity, and it goes like this: Christianity started in Palestine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise. Some of the students were only 18 or 19 years old—barely out of diapers—and I wanted them to understand and appreciate the import of the last line, so I clarified it by adding, “An enterprise. That’s a business.”

After a few moments Martha, the youngest student in the class, raised her hand. I could not imagine what her question might be. I thought the little vignette was self-explanatory, and that I had performed it brilliantly. Nevertheless, I acknowledged Martha’s raised hand, “Yes, Martha.” She asked such a simple question, “A business? But isn’t it supposed to be a body?” I could not envision where this line of questioning was going, and the only response I could think of was, “Yes.” She continued, “But when a body becomes a business, isn’t that a pr******te?”

The room went dead silent. For several seconds no one moved or spoke. We were stunned, afraid to make a sound because the presence of God had flooded into the room, and we knew we were on holy ground. All I could think in those sacred moments was, “Wow, I wish I’d thought of that.” I didn’t dare express that thought aloud. God had taken over the class.

Martha’s question changed my life. For six months, I thought about her question at least once every day. “When a body becomes a business, isn’t that pr******te?” There is only one answer to her question. The answer is “Yes.” The American Church, tragically, is heavily populated by people who do not love God. How can we love Him? We don’t even know Him; and I mean really know Him.

...I stand by my statement that most American Christians do not know God— much less love Him. The root of this condition originates in how we came to God. Most of us came to Him because of what we were told He would do for us. We were promised that He would bless us in life and take us to heaven after death.

We married Him for His money, and we don’t care if He lives or dies as long as we can get His stuff. We have made the Kingdom of God into a business, merchandising His anointing. This should not be. We are commanded to love God, and are called to be the Bride of Christ—that’s pretty intimate stuff. We are supposed to be His lovers. How can we love someone we don’t even know? And even if we do know someone, is that a guarantee that we truly love them? Are we lovers or pr******tes?

I was pondering Martha’s question again one day, and considered the question, “What’s the difference between a lover and a pr******te?” I realized that both do many of the same things, but a lover does what she does because she loves. A pr******te pretends to love, but only as long as you pay. Then I asked the question, “What would happen if God stopped paying me?”

For the next several months, I allowed God to search me to uncover my motives for loving and serving Him. Was I really a true lover of God? What would happen if He stopped blessing me? What if He never did another thing for me? Would I still love Him? Please understand, I believe in the promises and blessings of God. The issue here is not whether God blesses His children; the issue is the condition of my heart. Why do I serve Him? Are His blessings in my life the gifts of a loving Father, or are they a wage that I have earned or a bribe/payment to love Him? Do I love God without any conditions? It took several months to work through these questions. Even now I wonder if my desire to love God is always matched by my attitude and behavior. I still catch myself being disappointed with God and angry that He has not met some perceived need in my life. I suspect this is something which is never fully resolved, but I want more than anything else to be a true lover of God.

So what is it going to be? Which are we; lover or pr******te? There are no pr******tes in heaven, or in the Kingdom of God for that matter, but there are plenty of former pr******tes in both places. Take it from a recovering pr******te when I say there is no substitute for unconditional, intimate relationship with God. And I mean there is no palatable substitute available to us (take another look at Matthew 7:21-23 sometime). We must choose.

Dr. David Ryser

Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ was born; lived a life of righteousness for you canceling out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us upon a cross so we can stand before God justified, adopted, and sanctified! All by His grace!

Sunday, June 6th

We will be having church at the home of Shawn and Shanna Crogan starting at 10:45. Shawn will be leading the message this week.

In place of sharing breakfast together, we will have a carry in lunch directly after service around 12:30. Please bring a side dish.

Also, they have asked for help with the set up of their pool so anyone who could stay after and assist it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to meeting together this Sunday.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

This is the result of church folks when there's no spiritual foundation!
Many people are dying a slow spiritual death because their hope lies in the traditions of the church only, and not in JESUS! Be sure that your relationship is with Jesus, not a building! Make sure wherever you assemble, that the foundation of your faith is Jesus, not people or the building!

Worship Songs for Easter Sunday

He Lives

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today
I know that He is living, whatever men may say
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He's always near
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart
In all the world around me I see His loving care
And though my heart grows weary I never will despair
I know that He is leading, through all the stormy blast
The day of His appearing will come at last
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ, the King
The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find
None other is so loving, so good and kind
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Christ Jesus lives today

He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart

Are you washed in the blood/I’ll fly away

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
(Cord change into new melody) Some glad morning when this life is o'er, I'll fly away;
To a home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away.
I'll fly away, Oh Glory, I'll fly away;
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I'll fly away.
Just a few more weary days and then, I'll fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end, I'll fly away.
I'll fly away, Oh Glory, I'll fly away;
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I'll fly away.
Yeah, when I die Hallelujah by and by
I'll Fly Away

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I am found
Was blind, but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares
We have already come
‘Twas grace has brought us safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright, shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’ve first begun

Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus (Sovereign Grace)

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace
Turn your eyes to the hillside, Where justice and mercy embraced
There the Son of God gave His life for us, And our measureless debt was erased
CHORUS
Jesus, to You we lift our eyes
Jesus, our glory and our prize
We adore You, behold You, our Savior ever true
Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to You
Turn your eyes to the morning, And see Christ the Lion awake
What a glorious dawn, fear of death is gone, For we carry His life in our veins
CHORUS
Jesus, to You we lift our eyes
Jesus, our glory and our prize
We adore You, behold You, our Savior ever true
Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to You
Turn your eyes to the heavens, Our King will return for His own
Every knee will bow, every tongue will shout, ‘All glory to Jesus alone!’
CHORUS (x2)
Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to You

Who Was Saint Patrick and Should Christians Celebrate St. Patrick's Day? When it comes to Saint Patrick, the true story is even more exciting than the legend and the myth. The facts are far better than the fable. This day that belongs to St. Patrick has become about leprechauns, shamrocks, pots of gold, and green—green everywhere. Jesus Christ is King!

01/31/2021

1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
3 "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us."
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.
5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6 "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill."
7 I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. - Psalms 2
