Is there any way that N&W 611 would fit on the GSMR trackage for a full ride, rather than just parts of it?
Could someone provide the radio channel GSMR uses? Thx

Saturday will be GSMRs last all day Photo Special excursion with Steam Locomotive 1702 for the 2017 season. September also marks 1702s 75th birthday, and this "throwback" excursion will follow the old Tuckasegee River excursion (that's right, the first Tuckasegee River excursion to depart Dillsboro in 9 years!!), departing from Dillsboro NC at 10AM, traveling to Bryson City NC for a 1 hour, 30 minute layover, which will include a demonstration of the turntable to prepare 1702 for the return trip. The trip will last 6 hours and 45 minutes, with an expected arrival back in Dillsboro at 4:45PM, giving passengers the opportunity to explore the town of Dillsboro before and after the trip. While enroute, passengers will enjoy 5 all new photo runbys, giving passengers an excellent opportunity to see and experience the Steam of the Smokies in action. This trip will be unassisted, meaning it'll all be 1702 (no diesels allowed!) Be sure to book your tickets!!!

The GSMR tourist train collided with a tour bus at Nantahala Outdoor Center today around 11:50 a.m. today. According to NOC President Mr. Irving, there were no serious injuries. He said an incident has never occurred like this in the outdoor center's history and that the train uses a protocol including a series of horns and drives slowly through that area. Despite the warnings, he said, the bus proceeded across the railroad tracks and into the train's path.

One year ago today, Steam returned to the Smokies. Seems like only yesterday when we heard a steam whistle echo through Western North Carolina for the first time in over a decade.

1702 arrived in Bryson City this evening, and is shined up and ready to roll for tomorrow's Nantahala Gorge Excursion. (And yes, it's not an optical illusion. 1702 has shed her red number boards and is sporting a new shade of brass in their place. The photos don't do it justice. They're a pretty classy touch in person.)
