NCWorks would like to welcome our newest Career Advisor, Beau Busby. Beau works out of the Jackson County Career Center Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Beau will be working out of the Marianna Black Library in Bryson City. We are lucky to have Beau!!
Mr. Busby has twenty years of philanthropic and community engagement, service in positions of leadership and professional development. Mr. Busby has sixteen years of experience in higher education administration, with nine years overseeing alumni engagement operations. In his most current position, he served as one of two primary contacts for the Office of Alumni Engagement to create opportunities for alumni to reconnect and maintain lifelong relationships with their alma mater, while maintaining clear confidentiality standards. Mr. Busby assisted Alumni Board of Directors as a university representative and planned and executed approximately 50 alumni engagement events each year, including Western Carolina University alumni club activities, homecoming, reunions, social media, campus tours, open house events and online community events.
Mr. Busby managed the Western Carolina University (WCU) alumni club program by regularly providing guidance, training, leadership development, communicating organizational policies and other pertinent information to club leaders and volunteers. Mr. Busby has extensive engagement experience such as assisting the Director of Alumni Engagement in planning and implementing major alumni events including Purple & Gold Reunion, Homecoming, African American Alumni, Family and Friends Reunion, Old Timers Annual Soccer Reunion, 125th Celebration of WCU, annual Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball game, Chancellor’s Tour Stops, and 2020 Graduation weekend. Mr. Busby also developed and implemented the annual new student send-off events for seven strategic areas around the southeast to help students engage with active regionally based WCU alumni clubs. Mr. Busby created and managed the annual strategic communications plan that integrates various communication media to reach the university’s alumni constituents including direct mail, alumni website, email communications and multiple online social networking sites.
Mr. Busby's other professional work experiences included coordinating with the WCU Annual Giving office and other university departments to maximize effectiveness and joint messaging. Mr. Busby planned out of the area tailgating opportunities in collaboration with WCU Athletics as well as affinity reunions and tailgates. Mr. Busby identified key alumni and donors to maintain affinity and engagement with the university. Mr. Busby's team playing experiences include partnering with the Center for Career and Professional Development to identify alumni and chaperoned three alumni job shadowing experiences in the metro Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC and Asheville, NC areas. Mr. Busby captured and reported information utilizing the Raisers Edge NXT platform to perform basic data analysis and management.
Mr. Busby spent seven years of experience serving as Admissions Consultant providing specific and accurate information counseling to students, groups, families and educators concerning admissions process/criteria, student services such as financial aid, testing, counseling, placement and housing. During that time, he reviewed academic credentials of approximately 2000 candidates for admission each year and render an admission decision. Mr. Busby also implemented marketing and recruitment strategies, by building relationships with high school guidance counselors and faculty within an assigned geographic region to keep the university top of mind when working with students. Mr. Busby performed approximately 70 presentations per semester to a variety of audiences regarding Western Carolina University and the college admissions process across the recruiting territory. Mr. Busby also facilitated at least 10 Instant Decision events at local high schools per year. Mr. Busby performed data analysis and management functions within Recruitment Plus and BANNER to ensure a smooth transition for all student records after admission decision was rendered. Mr. Busby served as university representative at local scholarship awards ceremonies and advised for Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi Fraternities, WCU Judicial Appeals Board and on WCU hiring committees as needed.
