Six Kittens Rescue

🐾An update for all who have and continue to support us. 🐾

We have both good and bad news to share. First the good, of the 5 kittens hospitalized, three have come home to their fosters and are doing wonderfully. Now the sad part. Both Johnny and Josie crossed the rainbow bridge in addition to Butterkin, the first kitten we lost.

It has been a hard week not only for our team but for the fosters who have been patiently waiting for their babies to come home. To those fosters, thank you. Thank you for caring and for loving these babies so hard. The work you do and the care you give means the world for these tiny lives.

To the veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and clinic staff Bryan Animal Clinic who fought alongside us, thank you. Thank you for the long hours, the constant monitoring, the treatments, the difficult conversations, and every effort you made to give each of these kittens a fighting chance. We know how much you invested in their care, and we know these losses hurt you, too. We are deeply grateful for the compassion you showed our kittens and our team through an extraordinarily difficult week.

To our team, you have navigated these challenges with courage, empathy and strength. Thank you for volunteering and taking time out of your day to keep this rescue going. It has been a hard week and though your hearts are hurting and you’re exhausted, you have kept going despite it all.

To our community. You showed up and you showed up hard. We have received so many donations and so many supplies. Our work is not over but the support you have shown has kept us going. We ask that you continue to follow us and to support us. We are still in need of donations to help us navigate the enormous vet bill we face. We still need supplies to replace the things we are losing to our sanitation and disinfection protocols to ensure our kittens remain safe and we still need your words of support and encouragement.

To the delivery drivers, thank you for putting up with all our boxes! We know some of them were heavy but because you delivered them, our kittens can use the things inside.

PENDING ADOPTION

Plottwist (DOB 7/1) will be ready for her forever home on October 1st.

She’s your classic happy-go-lucky kitten! 🤍 She’s friendly, playful, and always ready to join whatever fun her siblings have going on. She loves toys, wrestling, exploring, and all the usual kitten shenanigans. She’s an easygoing little girl who would fit right into a home looking for a sweet, playful companion.

Upon adoption, Plottwist will be spayed and vaccinated. She tested negative for FIV/FeLV. She also has a pre-registered microchip.

We’ll be at Blackwater Draw in Bryan on Sunday, September 27 from 2–4 PM. Come grab a drink, bring your smartest friends, and help us raise money for rescue cats and kittens. 🐾

Sassafras (DOB 6/17) is ready for immediate adoption.

She may have started out as a little on the spicy side, but this sweet girl has discovered that people can be pretty great. 💕🐾

She’s cautious when she first meets you and may need a little time to decide if you’re trustworthy. But once you’re in her circle, she becomes incredibly affectionate and absolutely loves attention. 🥰

Like any kitten, she’s full of energy and loves playing with her toys. She’s curious, playful, silly, and has the sweetest personality once she lets her guard down.

From a spicy little kitty to affectionate little lovebug, she’s come such a long way. 💗 She just needs someone willing to give her a little patience at first and in return, you’ll get a playful, loving companion who will adore you once she knows you’re safe. 🐱💕

Sassafrass has tested positive for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). Because FeLV can be transmitted between cats through close, prolonged contact, Sassafrass will need a home where she is either the only cat or lives with other FeLV-positive cats.

Being FeLV+ doesn’t change who Sassafrass is or how deserving she is of a loving home. FeLV-positive cats can enjoy happy, meaningful lives, but their immune systems may be more vulnerable to illness. Sassafrass should live indoors only, receive regular veterinary care, and be seen promptly if something seems off. With FeLV+ cats, illnesses that might otherwise seem minor are worth addressing early.

For the right family, Sassafrass has just as much love, personality, and companionship to give as any other cat. Her diagnosis is part of her story, but it certainly isn’t the most interesting thing about her.

We are so incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to raise some of Texas's finest critters! Now it's time to keep a little piece of Texas with you wherever you may go.

For those of you who have been following along, these are the critters we got from a wildlife rescue (RobCo Wildlife Rescue) around the same time we gave Paws and Claws Wildlife Rehabilitation an ACTUAL Texas critter (Dammit Bobby the bobcat). We appreciate these wonderful connections we have with people who are like-minded in the goal of helping small creatures of all kinds.

The last several days have been some of the hardest we’ve faced as a rescue. Panleukopenia moves fast, it is unforgiving, and despite doing everything we can to prevent it, sometimes it still finds its way in.
Right now, our entire organization is focused on getting our kittens through this outbreak safely. That has meant pausing intakes and adoptions, isolating exposed kittens, supporting our foster families, making countless trips to the vet, and doing everything possible to give each sick kitten a fighting chance.
We have already lost two little lives. Others are still fighting. And our veterinary expenses from this outbreak alone have climbed past $10,000.
But there are also kittens improving. There are fosters showing up day after day. There are volunteers doing the hard, exhausting work that happens behind the scenes. And there is an incredible community standing behind us.
Thank you to Alex, Rusty, and KBTX for shining a light not only on what SKR is facing right now, but on the reality of rescue work that people don't always get to see.

First: thank you.

When we told you we were drowning, you showed up in a way we will never forget. Our community stepped up and donated money, sent food and supplies, shared our post, and reminded our team that we are not doing this alone.
We are incredibly grateful.

Unfortunately, things have gotten worse.
Another litter has now tested positive for panleukopenia.

And we aren’t the only rescue dealing with this. Panleuk is hitting shelters and rescues across Texas right now which is a devastating reality during an already brutal kitten season.

Panleuk is highly contagious and can be especially dangerous for kittens, which means when it enters a rescue, everything changes.

Right now, Six Kittens Rescue is in lockdown.
No new kittens are coming in.

Our focus has to be on protecting the cats already in our care, supporting our foster families, containing exposure, disinfecting, monitoring kittens, and getting sick babies the medical care they need.

Also, we are a mess.
Our team is exhausted. We are scared. We are heartbroken. We are cleaning, disinfecting, going to vet appointments, giving medications, watching kittens closely, worrying about every little change, and trying desperately to get everyone through this.

The support you gave us already has made an enormous difference.

But now, with another litter affected, the expenses keep coming.
We still need help with vet bills, medications, food, cleaning supplies, and everything it takes to get our foster homes and kittens through this outbreak.

And if donating isn’t possible, please keep our kittens, foster families, vets, and rescue team in your thoughts. Send us all the good vibes you’ve got.
We’re going to keep fighting for them.

An ear tip may be small, but the love and effort behind it is big.

Every ear-tipped community cat represents someone who cared enough to take action. Someone set a trap, waited patiently, transported a frightened cat, coordinated a spay or neuter appointment, helped with recovery, and returned that cat safely back to the place they call home.

TNR is often quiet, behind-the-scenes work. It can mean early mornings, late nights, missed sleep, countless miles driven, and a whole lot of patience. All done by volunteers who may never receive recognition for the hours they put in.

But their impact lives on. Each cat spayed or neutered means fewer kittens born outdoors, fewer cats competing for limited resources, and a healthier, more manageable community cat population over time.

So when you see that little tipped ear, remember: someone cared enough. And communities are better because they did.

🚨 WE NEED HELP. We are drowning. 🚨

Last night, this tiny kitten tested positive for panleukopenia.

And we are already stretched to our limit.

Kitten season hit us HARD this year. We took in litter after litter because when tiny lives need help, we want to be able to say yes.

But every yes comes with food, vaccines, spay/neuter, medications, testing, emergency visits, and all the unexpected things no rescue can fully plan for.

This year, we’ve dealt with tummy troubles, heart concerns, sick kittens, normal vetting, and now panleuk — which may mean an entire litter has been exposed.

We are exhausted.

Our vet bills are piling up.
We need food for the kittens already in our care.
And now we’re facing even more medical costs.

We want to keep helping.

We want to keep saying yes when someone finds a sick kitten, a scared litter, or a cat with nowhere else to go.

But right now, we cannot do it alone.
