The wards held. Barely.
When ZRT called in for support, they said "possible TYPE-W activity." What they meant was "we have no idea what this is and it's getting worse."

Three layers of protective circles. Silver lined containment barriers. Counter hex sigils burned into the ground. And about six different invocations I don't usually touch because they come with a price.
The entity is contained. For now.

Here's what command needs to understand: magic isn't a light switch. It's negotiation. It's balance. Sometimes it's borrowing power from things that want something in return. Every ward I place, every ritual I perform... there's cost.

ZRT sees results. They don't see the exhaustion, the spiritual debt, or the fact that I'll be cleansing this site for weeks.
But that's the job. Michael handles the physical threats. Dakoda handles the tech and aliens. I handle what shouldn't exist but does anyway.

Mission successful. Threat neutralized.
I'm going to sleep for twelve hours now.

The Alien Response Team handles a wide range of threats. Pathogenic outbreaks. Biological contaminants. Airborne hazards that most people don’t even have a name for yet. When ART deploys for a biological response, the team moves in full modern hazmat sealed suits, filtered respirators, advanced detection equipment.
Most of the team, anyway.

Their director has a different philosophy.
When Dakoda “Judge” Ellis arrived at the most recent biological response operation in full plague doctor regalia, no one said anything. Partly out of respect. Mostly because nobody quite knew what to say. The long coat. The hood. The mask.
The beak.

What followed was a full and effective containment operation executed without a single protocol deviation. Afterward, someone finally asked.

He said it was a personal preference.
He has never elaborated further.

What we can confirm is that the outfit is not decorative. The beak houses a full advanced respiratory filtration system. The optical lenses are modern tactical optics in period accurate housings. By every measurable standard it is a fully operational biological response suit.
It just looks like it walked out of 1347.

Field reports have noted that hostiles and civilians alike tend to move out of the way when they see it coming. Dakoda has been asked repeatedly whether this psychological effect was intentional.
He has never confirmed or denied it.

Judge’s plague doctor will be making its first public appearance at Valdosta Comic Con.

Today, the Armory stands silent.

Tools are set aside. Missions are paused. We bow our heads as Michael and Dakoda share the passing of their grandfather.

He was a man who lived a life of profound purpose, a proud Vietnam War veteran who answered his country's call when duty demanded it, and a devoted preacher who spent the rest of his days answering a higher one. He gave his family faith, strength, and a love that words cannot fully measure.

To those of us who build community here in the Armory, you understand what it means to stand beside the people you love. Grandpa lived that truth. On foreign soil in service of his nation, and at the pulpit in service of his God and his people.

He will be deeply missed. He will not be forgotten.

Please keep Sarge, Dakoda, and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

After recent field assessments, it has become clear that the Zombie Response Team’s operational scope may need to expand beyond the walking dead. When your Chief Metaphysical Officer, Allie “Sigil” Ellis the woman who can stare down an ethereal rift without flinching, looks you dead in the eye and says “I don’t do ghosts, that’s not my department,” you take the hint.

So we made it someone’s department

Effective immediately, the Armory is proud to announce the formation of the ZRT Specter Response Division.

The SRD operates as a specialized franchise unit under the Zombie Response Team, equipped and trained to handle Class I through Class V paranormal entities, Proton-based containment protocols, and Full ghost-catching capability.

Allie has been informed. She said, and we quote: “Keep it away from me.” We’re probably not going to.

The SRD will be making its first public appearance at Valdosta Comic Con. Consider this your only warning.
