On June 19, 1865, about two months after the Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, Va., Gordon Granger, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended. General Granger’s announcement put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been issued nearly two and a half years earlier, on Jan. 1, 1863, by President Abraham Lincoln.

The holiday is also called “Juneteenth Independence Day,” “Freedom Day” or “Emancipation Day” and our offices will be closed today, June 19, 2026 as Path2Response respectfully celebrates this day.

In publishing, Subscriber Acquisition Cost (SAC) vs. Lifetime Value (LTV) is an unforgiving equation—especially when industry-wide acquisition rates have been tightening for three consecutive years.

Mike Roots, Sr. Client Partner at Path2Response, discusses that the problem isn’t just rising costs. It’s a fundamental quality paradox: while publishing boasts an incredibly low voluntary churn rate overall (just 2.1%), first-term churn typically spikes around 25%.
