📚📖📚Our season of books continues with a celebration for the new English translation of Saša Stanišić's "Herkunft" (English: Where You Come From) from Tin House. We're joining Third Place Books Lake Forest Park and Community Bookstore in welcoming Saša Stanišic for a virtual book talk and the exclusive U.S. launch of his 2019 Deutscher Buchpreis-winning novel!⠀

Tune in on Tuesday, December 7, at 1pm PT to catch Stanišić in conversation with Damion Searls, who translated "Where You Come From," and author & translator Jenny Croft. 💌 Register for the online event at https://bit.ly/whereyoucomefrom

📘 Visit Third Place Books to preorder the English translation, which will be released on December 7, 2021. (Psst: A little elf just told us it will be our February book club selection! 😉)⠀

📖 About the book: Saša Stanišić’s novel is about a boy and his parents who flee Yugoslavia for Germany, whose world is uprooted and remade by war: their history, their life before the conflict, and the years that followed their escape as they created a new life in a new country. Blending autofiction, fable, and choose-your-own-adventure, "Where You Come From" is set in a village where only thirteen people remain, in lost and made-up memories, in coincidences, in choices, and in a dragons’ den. Translated by Damion Searls, it’s a novel about homelands, both remembered and imagined, and playfully twists form and genre to explore questions that lie inside all of us: about language and shame, luck and death, and what role our origins and memories play in our lives.⠀

We are now Closed for Browsing; Open for Phone & Online Orders, Pickups & Local Deliveries!

For the common good, and out of concern for the well-being of our staff and customers, we have decided to close Community Bookstore and Terrace Books for browsing from March 16 through the end of the month, at which time we will reevaluate the situation.

We will still be selling books - you can order from us by phone and online on our website. We are offering free delivery of books ordered on our website, by hand or by media mail. We will also be at the store every day from 10-6, and can take payments by phone and hand over books at the door.

For a small, locally owned store, closing was not an easy decision, but we firmly believe it was the right one, especially for a business with community in its name. We cannot thank our bookstore community enough for its continuous support over the decades. Together, we have weathered other trying times. We are confident we will get through these times as well.

Stay healthy. Be well.
