Phishing Scams

Phishing Secret Shopper Scams

A recent phishing email scam has been brought to our attention. An email announcing students were selected as a “Kingsborough Community College Job Placement & Student Services as a secret shopper” has been circulated from other Kingsborough email addresses. This email was not distributed by Kingsborough Community College. KCC will never ask or instruct any students to deposit checks, purchase gift cards, or solicit personal information via email. Office of Information Technology Services reminds our student community to be vigilant when browsing internet and responding to emails.

Kingsborough Community College Homepage

Dear Kingsborough Students,

As announced by President Schrader during convocation, the College is actively involved in an RFP process to enlist proposals for revamping our existing website (created in 2010). A website committee, chaired by VP Rios, and composed of faculty and staff, was formed to evaluate the needs of our existing website. As a result of the committee’s work, an RFP was created, finalize and submitted to CUNY legal for review and approval.

While the RFP process is under way, the University has mandated, based on an Office of Civil Rights (OCR) filing against CUNY, that colleges have to address an immediate and pressing issue related website accessibility and mobile responsiveness. Hence, we had to embark on a plan to create an interim website that would address these issues while we embark on the full RFP.

The interim website has addressed the accessibility issues, has made the website mobile responsive, will help with current enrollment efforts and has changed the look and feel of the site. The work involved cleaning up and migrating the content from the current site, ensuring that the site is fully mobile responsive and compliant with our OCR commitment, and search engine optimized.

Our ITS team has strived to accomplish all these tasks in record time and are still working on finishing touches. We plan to launch the interim website before the end of this month. We will continue to work after the launch to fix any content conversion issues and add other features to satisfy the needs to all areas of the campus.

We hope this interim website will provide the foundation for the final product which will result from the RFP process. The website committee will continue to provide oversight on the RFP process, and the governance and content management issues.

The new Interim Kingsborough website was launched today, we appreciate your feedback for the new website, please send your updates to [email protected].

MyInfo provides a way to provide students, faculty and administrators with an alternate way to look up essential CUNYfirst information without having to log in to CUNYfirst. It was originally intended to serve as a way to reduce CUNYfirst logins during peak times and to provide access to critical information in the event the system was not available. Since then, it has evolved into a highly used and valuable tool with additional features such as a
student Financial Aid Summary view. Students can use mobile MyInfo, for example, to:

• Speed up award inquiries at the financial aid office and bill payments at the bursar’s office now that they have their financial aid summary, literally in hand;
• Leverage MyInfo campus maps to help find their way to classes;
• Search online for textbooks; and
• Add reminders 15 minutes ahead of scheduled classes

Dear Kingsborough Students and Faculty,

The ITS department is pleased to announce that starting last week we have added three more locations to provide Scan to Email services to Kingsborough Students and Faculty. This is in addition to service we had added in Winter on the L-100 D side of the L-100 Open Lab, so far about 54,600 scans have been made on just one machine and anticipating growth in demand we decided to add three more devices. This service is provided via our three newly installed Multi Function Printing systems located in Room L-105 and L-100 open Lab, these systems allow for high speed, high resolution color scanning capability. The instructions on using the systems are attached, the only limitation in using this system is size of the scan document which is 10 MB (this translates into about 80 pages per email for Black and White scans Hi Resolution Color scans may increase the file size and result in less pages per email. ). We are planning on working with Library department to add such devices on 2nd floor of the library. We also want to thank our B&G department for their prompt help in getting us appropriate power for these devices. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns .
