[12/10/19]   COME OUT AND SUPPORT - The Many Voices Project
Wednesday, December 11
4pm
T-8207 (T-8 building)

The Many Voices Project at Kingsborough Community College brings the words of immigrant and first generation students to a wider audience, through the use of music, spoken word, and some theatre. The stories and words of immigrants are an integral part of the fabric of CUNY, and particularly here at KCC. Too often, however, we find ourselves separated into “us & them,” US-born vs. foreign-born - two different groups seemingly separated by language, culture, religion, race, and/or national origin. This project features words written by students, workshopped and finally performed by students, and in turn will bring more awareness to the struggles, the hopes, the desires, and the stories of these diverse voices. It will bring these very important words to our performers and audiences and through this, a greater understanding of “the other.” If we hear and understand each other’s words, suddenly “they” become “us,” and the “us & them” just become “we.”

Special congrats to Professor Tom Rothacker for his KCACTF Service Award as Chair of the Irene Ryan Acting Program and Professor Jessica Corbin for rocking her first year as Chair of Musical Theatre. Shout outs to all of our students, including those who acted in the National Playwriting Program, Frank Ying for placing 3rd in the Tech Olympics, and Irinola Megrelishvili & Philip Perez for being 1 of 16 pairs to advance to the finals of the Irene Ryan Acting Program. General information

The Theatre Arts Major at Kingsborough Community College offers students a varied, liberal arts based introduction to the art of theatre, through traditional lecture-style classes, conservatory style studio classes and a full production season. Students may concentrate in either Performance or Technical Theatre, both of which allow students to select electives relevant to the student’s specific area of interest. The program produces a season of theatrical productions and workshops each academic year, allowing students to put into practice what has been outlined in the classroom. The program also works closely with the campus Theatre Club and is also actively involved in The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The program holds several articulation agreements with four-year colleges & universities where many Kingsborough students have continued their theatre studies. For more information on the theatre arts program, explore our webpage or email us with questions.
