826NYC helps New York City students write their future. Creative writing helps children flourish, building skills and confidence--that’s why we offer various programs for 6-18-year-olds both in schools and at our Secret Library, hidden behind the BSSC.

Operating as usual
From Spiderman to the Madrigals, we love a good character! In this workshop we'll create heroes, villains, ordinary people, or complicated in-betweens, and figure out what makes them who they are. At the end of the week, students will showcase their character—their dreams, fears, and desires—in a monologue or scene! This program is available as a full-day camp for grades 4-6, and as a Zoom workshop for grades 7-9. Join us: 826nyc.org/summer-workshops.
What wonders does the future hold?? In this workshop, we'll write stories inspired by science fiction and the hopeful futures of utopian fiction, featuring out-of-this-world progress from time travel, to new inventions, to previously unexplored galaxies. Students will venture into the unknown, and come out of class with their own, original sci-fi story! Sign up now to join us in the future: http://826nyc.org/summer-workshops
In our second week of summer writing, things will be getting a little…wait for it…suspenseful! Students will explore classic mysteries and follow a trail of handwritten notes, secret passages, and shocking reveals. Examples in literature, film, and even board games will inspire original and intriguing short stories that will be sure to have you on the edge of your seat until the very end! Sign up to join us:

For the first of our five weeks of detailed and delicious summer writing, we're celebrating everything from the bodega with the BEC you can’t live without, to cough-inducing cooking chilies, to the good ol’ NYC slice! In July, students will create gastronomical maps of their neighborhoods and write short stories of the foods of home, share recipes, and dive into details that will make your mouth water! Join us – you may just want to bring a plate.

Congratulations to the young authors of Bronx Academy for Software Engineering on the publication of Our Worldview: We Are Who We Are. How wonderful it is to be given these glimpses into the worlds of these young people, and ask ourselves: is this the world as we see it? What do we miss or gloss over every day that these writers are boldly, caringly, and creatively reckoning with? Spring has sprung and we have books! This fall 826NYC partnered with Beacon programs at six schools for a special journaling project. They made lists of their favorite people and places, defined their nicknames, and explained the real problem with celery. They wrote poems and stories, advice and encouragement, and reminded us: You’re Worth More Than Anything. https://www.superherosupplies.com/products/youre-worth-more-than-anything?_pos=1&_sid=ae1a82a17&_ss=r
April's Student of the Month is Jason R. Jason is a student in Write After School and Write Away Workshops. We thought Jason's advice for aspiring writers was worth sharing: Stay creative and if you have a thought, put it down.
