Insurance company: “No problem.. We got a guy”

This is a $70k Mercedes GLE 43 that was “repaired” at an insurance company recommended “express” shop.

The owner had no idea anything was wrong with his vehicle.

Issues include:
-Replaced a damaged taillamp with a damaged taillamp
-Unrepaired panels (lower bumper & rear body panel)
-Panel gap issues
-Giant buckle in the quarter panel (unknown structural issues)

Before & Afters….2020 BMW 330i

A local Subaru dealer body shop attempted to repair this Subaru Forester, but failed. Just because a dealer sells a certain brand of vehicle it does not mean they are certified to repair them.

This vehicle’s structure was not repaired correctly resulting in a misaligned structure and misaligned outer panels which tipped the owner off to a problem.

In addition no required safety inspections and calibrations were completed potentially putting the vehicle occupants at risk

Aftermarket parts were used in place of genuine Subaru parts even when the insurance company paid for the correct OEM replacement parts. Structural parts were repaired instead of being replaced and some damage was even missed.

Know what replacement parts are being used on your vehicle. The differences between an original equipment fender (FCA Fiat Chrysler) and a “certified” aftermarket fender on this 2011-2020 Dodge Durango are easily visible.

If they don’t look the same it’s most likely these aftermarket parts will not perform as Chrysler intended in an accident. This can effect safety items such as airbags deploying too soon or too late.

2018 Honda Clarity Plug In Hybrid - Quarter panel replaced and lots of caution.

Hybrid, plug in hybrid & full electric vehicles require specific power down procedures before work can be safely started.
Once powered back up this Honda required a Honda IHDS scan to clear all fault codes (last picture) and make sure all system are working properly. The passenger seat weight sensor requires an output check after any collision and the camera located in the windshield (lane keep assist) requires calibration (due to removal of the windshield)

When choosing between original manufacturer parts (OEM) and aftermarket / generic parts be aware these parts may not perform as the vehicle manufacturer intended in a collision. These parts may be labeled “certified”, but they are not crash tested by the manufacturer.

These aftermarket “certified” parts are also often “decertified” by their own “certified” entity and notice is never sent to consumers.

Our client’s 2020 Toyota RAV 4 Hybrid with only 81 miles sustained damage to the driver side.

Part of the repair required the driver’s side front door to be replaced. Seems like a simple repair, but this vehicle has over 5 advanced safety systems all with their own radars, monitors and sensors.

Both front and rear bumpers were removed during the repair process which then requires additional calibrations to be made. These calibrations would not be obvious to most clients and untrained body shops.

Toyota’s PKSB (Parking Support Brake System) requires the parking sensor angles to measured and calibrated after bumper removal.

The millimeter wave radar (another Toyota safety feature) located behind the front emblem grille was also re-calibrated.

Ford F-150 aluminum bedside replacement taking place in our aluminum clean room.

If precautions are not taken to prevent steel dust from settling on aluminum-intensive vehicle surfaces, galvanic corrosion will occur and weaken aluminum components. Steel dust that settles on aluminum exterior surfaces such as the hood, roof, or door panels will also cause galvanic corrosion that will damage your paint job.

This bedside is attached using a combination of rivet bonding and aluminum mig welding.
