Hello,

I’m with Mount Sinai and we’re doing a survey to better understand how New Yorkers, including Brighton Beach residents, have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re really interested in better understanding people’s experiences so that we can help direct resources where they’re needed.

Can you please take ten minutes to fill out the survey?

The link is: https://is.gd/nycovid
Your response is your voice for your community.

For more information about the research project visit: https://www.speakuponcovid.org/
Thank you so much!

Hi everyone, I’m Allie, and I’m a reporter at THE CITY NY, a nonprofit news organization that covers the five boroughs. I wanted to share a project that we’re just starting called MISSING THEM.

This collaborative project is meant to remember and honor every person we’ve lost to COVID-19—who they were and what they meant to our city.

So far, nearly 22,000 New Yorkers have died due to the coronavirus. Yet, only 5% of those lost to COVID-19 will ever have a public mention of their lives. We want to change that and honor all of our friends, family, neighbors and fellow New Yorkers by writing as many obituaries as we can for each person. Each person killed by this disease has lived a full life and we need to remember that.

To start, we found 1,005 of the 22,145 confirmed and probable deaths, which is about 4.5% of the total number of NYC residents lost to COVID-19. You can find those names in our searchable memorial page: https://projects.thecity.nyc/covid-19-deaths/

But many names are not memorialized yet. We want to change that and need your help.

If you know someone—a coworker, family member, friend, neighbor etc.—who died from coronavirus in New York City, we want to hear from you and learn about their life and what made them unique. You can do this a few ways:

Call our hotline: 646-494-1095
Text “remember” to 73224
Email us at [email protected]
Or fill out this form here: https://buff.ly/3hiWXjv

If you have any questions, email me at [email protected]. Thank you. And stay healthy.

Hey Southern Brooklyn!

The MTA is taking a holistic, clean-slate view of Brooklyn bus service and they’re asking us for our input. They say they want to deliver more frequent, reliable service that satisfies our needs. They know a lot of their routes are outdated so they’re asking us to suggest ways they can better serve us.

Any regular bus rider in Southern Brooklyn has had ample time on their hands to envision a personal route that would connect all their favorite destinations. I, for one, would love to ride a bus from Brighton Beach to the movie theater in Sheepshead Bay. We’ve had no shortage of time to fantasize about such things while waiting for the late-running, bunched buses struggling against the endemic congestion in our Southern Brooklyn streets.

Even though the MTA’s schedule is north-heavy with events, we still have an opportunity to provide them with input through an online Survey link in their announcement. Lots of people rely on public transit in Southern Brooklyn as their lifeline to their jobs, schools, health care, shopping and recreation. Fortunately, there are several Southern Brooklyn Pop-up Events scheduled in Bay Ridge, Coney Island, Madison and Midwood, and Open Houses in Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach and Canarsie. All dates, times and locations are listed in the MTA’s announcement.

Please encourage your family, friends and neighbors, especially those who depend on Brooklyn bus service, to PROVIDE INPUT DIRECTLY TO THE MTA either through the Survey link or by attending an upcoming Pop-up Event or Open House. The MTA expects to report back to the public by the end of 2020 to share the feedback they received in the form of a draft Final Plan.

If we want the MTA’s plans to reflect our wishes, now is the time to let them know.

Don’t miss the bus.
