This #TeacherTuesday, we're excited to introduce you to Stephen! One of our newer friends, Stephen is excited to be joining us in serving several communities including @jcJCC Brooklyn North Williamsburg and JCC Brooklyn Windsor Terrace. They can't wait to meet you! 🎵🍎 #preschoolmusic #meettheteacher #jcc
#ShabbatShalom..HEY! How are YOU celebrating #Shabbat this weekend? Our friends at JCC Brooklyn Windsor Terrace are ready for sure 😍🕯️🕯️ #jcc #preschool #earlychildhood #musicandmovement
We are so thrilled to introduce you to JCC Brooklyn's new Director of Community Engagement, Rabbi Matthew Reimer.

Rabbi Reimer is working out of our JCC Brooklyn Windsor Terrace JCC Brooklyn North Williamsburg and JCC Brooklyn - Clinton Hill sites. He will focus on creating programming and special events for children and adults (including #Shabbat and holiday gatherings), networking with the community, cultivating potential donors and lay leaders, and even tending to people’s pastoral needs. With about 40,000 unaffiliated Jews currently living in Brownstone and North #Brooklyn — many of them interfaith— he believes there is great potential to engage families by providing high-quality programs and tapping the diverse talents of the people who live there.

“There are lots of different entry points for people to access their Judaism,” Rabbi Reimer said. “For many people that point occurs when they have children and they want to give their kids a taste of Jewish culture and traditions but in a non-synagogue setting. That’s what JCC Brooklyn does through its #earlychildhood programming. And as families stay here and grow, we see a real opportunity for JCC Brooklyn to evolve and grow along with them.”

A native of West Orange, NJ, Rabbi Reimer majored in music at Vassar College and was ordained in 2007 by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Before coming to JCC Brooklyn, he was Senior Rabbi of Temple Sinai in New Orleans, the oldest and largest Reform congregation in Louisiana. Previously he served as the Rabbi for The Shul of New York, an unaffiliated synagogue in New York City, the Interim Rabbi for Port Jewish Center in Port Washington, LI, and Assistant and then Associate Rabbi at Temple B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills, New Jersey.

Rabbi Reimer’s wife, Leah, is an anesthesiologist, and they are the proud parents of four daughters. To reach Rabbi Matt Reimer, email [email protected] or call (718) 872-9445, ext. 805.

Our students enjoyed doing Purim activities like dressing up in costumes and decorating eye masks! They also enjoyed some delicious Hamentashen..Yum! :) #Purim #Hamentashen

NBC News sent a TV crew to the Kings Bay Y to talk to some of our seniors about how the crisis in Ukraine is affecting both our community and them personally. For our Russian-speaking seniors — many of them Holocaust survivors whose loved ones perished in concentration camps — the bombings, gunshots and evacuations currently devastating Ukraine have unearthed the trauma of a long ago, horrific time in their lives — a time they never thought they would see again. Daniel Zeltser, Chief Operating Officer at the Kings Bay Y, told the NBC reporter, "I don't know a single Jewish senior whose family went through the Holocaust and who emigrated from the former Soviet Union — where they did not have an easy life — who doesn't report 'I cannot sleep.'"

You can watch the news story here: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/russian-invasion-ukraine-retraumatized-holocaust-survivors-nys-little-rcna18608

The Kings Bay Y is working directly with the Ukrainian Consulate General in New York to help collect funds for urgent needs such as food, water, medicine for refugees, and temporary housing for those displaced by the war. All 100% of your donation will go directly to the people of Ukraine. Donate here:
