Hi, Not sure if this is just me or not but I cant get your website to load!
Shearing day! Our shearer, Jim Schaefer is so gentle with the ladies and does a fabulous job.
People often ask what we do with the wool...for the past two years we’ve been collaborating with DIY Natural Bedding. They clean it and turn it into wonderful bedding products!
Thank You DIY Natural Bedding! My family absolutely loves the pillows we made from the kits you so generously donated to us after we lost our home in a wildfire. We greatly appreciate you and your support!
Made a cute little book nook/dog bed!
I love it so much! Thank you 💕
Researching information about how much shredded foam belong in a pillow insert. I see I am not the only one that thinks about the "issue".
Hi there, I had a great experience at your Minneapolis showroom and have been trying to access your website to order and am not able to. I've tried for 2 weeks, unsure if it's down or not.
How many editors does it take to build a mattress? Hopefully no more than two! We're excited to partner with Mother Earth News tomorrow, at 1:30 CDT Live, as we try our hand at building a mattress from natural latex and organic wool. Join our live broadcast and bring questions! Thanks DIY Natural Bedding!
A product I'm trying to find but failing - wondering if it could be a DIY or something you can produce and sell...

A contoured pillow made out of the firmest dunlop latex. Two 1" latex slabs to go underneath it to adjust for different sized people. A case made from 100% organic cotton.
Im having trouble finding some good organic cotton sheets that will fit my 9" thick mattresses coming tomorrow. They all seem to be 15" fitted depth... will this be too big for the 9" mattress or not? Thanx
Is your latex 100% natural latex? Dupont or Talalay?
hello! so happy to have discovered your page! i'm curious about the kapok you use, is it from the ceiba tree in central america or is it harvested elsewhere? thanks in advance!

📢 We are so close to “Put a Pillow on your Fridge Day 2021” 🗓

So, we wanted to share some history of pillows!

Pillows have existed since 7000 BCE. They used stones in early Mesopotamia to keep bugs from crawling in their mouths, nose, and ears. 🐛

Egyptians believed the human head was the seal of spiritual life! They used different materials to honor the head like stone, marble, ivory, and even wood. 🪓

The Greeks and Romans made pillows that most closely resemble modern pillows. They used cotton, straw, and reeds for common folk and feathers for the wealthy! 🏺

They weren’t used very often because they were looked at as a luxury that many couldn’t afford. 💸

Exact origins of “Put a Pillow on a Fridge Day” are unknown. Many believe it is a modernized version of the old tradition of putting linens in the pantry to bring good luck. 🤞🍀🧧

🌎 Happy Earth Day! 🌍

Take 10% off one of our favorite eco-friendly products!

🌴 Kapok fiber 🌱

-is the seed pod fluff of the rainforest tree called the Ceiba tree or the silk cotton tree. The pods are harvested and the trees are left standing to be harvested again!

The fluffy fiber is actually buoyant; it was used in the designs for the first life jackets (until synthetic foams came on the market).

Its feel is similar to the light weight feeling of down, but without the allergies and the loss of loft that go with feathers.

The silk is luxurious to the touch and a medium firm support.

Pillows stuffed with kapok act most like standard pillows. They have loft, can be fluffed, do not need to be punched in the middle of the night and retain their shape well. Kapok makes a great decorative pillow as overstuffing a pillow case with it highlights the pillow’s shape and fabric well.

🌎 Earth day is approaching!  🌍

Here at DIY Natural Bedding we like to be natural, eco-friendly, sustainable and low waste and to offer you the options to do the same. Here are some of our great fills used for pillows and mattresses and other cushiony things!

🐑 Wool- We offer 3 options of wool: Woolly Bolas (small, lightweight wool balls), Wool Flake, and Wool Batting. These different options help customize comfort! Do you want our softest pillow fill option with the Woolly Bolas or a completely natural, firm mattress with Wool Flake or a warm comforter to snuggle under with our Wool Batting. The choice is yours!

🌬 Cotton Batting- Certified GOTS Organic. Our Cotton Batting has an inherent firmness and is a great vegan option for a  pillow, mattress, or upholstery project. It's also a great affordable option for the budget DIY-er as it is almost twice as thick as the wool batting!

🌱 Kapok- Kapok fiber is the seed pod fluff of a rainforest tree called the Ceiba tree or the silk cotton tree.

🌴 Latex- 100% All Natural, Organic, Botanical, Eco-Friendly, Sustainable, Vegan latex. As pure it gets! Sourced from 100% natural sources; primarily Hevea Brasiliensis trees in Sri Lanka. Organic natural latex rubber is fantastic at absorbing pressure points and has great rebound. With 5 firmnesses to choose from, it is the most luxurious natural fill to sleep on.

Looking forward to working on these couches.

That view! begs for natural fills to match the luxurious freshness of that blue and green outside. (pic 2)

One mattress down, another to go. This pull out couch use to have an inflatable topper but it broke long before we became owners of this RV. And who wants to sleep on 3 inches of springs so flexible they fold when not in use?!

For now, the solution is a latex topper in knit ticking with the waterproof jersey puddlepad.

The queen mattress will be replaced next, but the real question is how to sleep all 5 kids! Should we ditch the dinner for TV trays and put in a clue of couch/collapsible bunk beds?

09/28/2020

This could be your posh latex couch! We made the cushions with latex, wool and inner cases for this couch before the upholsterer did the finishing touch.

Are you getting ready for Christmas? Diane is. She has 15 out of her goal of 100 mittens made. These "winter coat for your fingers" are doubled lined, with our thick wool felt on the inside and a fleece on the outside. She will donate them to the homeless shelter in Indianapolis for Christmas.

And she is not scrimping on her effort in making these gloves Instead of producing just a hand washable product, she is taking the time to properly wet felt the wool which has already been wet felted. Wet felting makes the wool more waterproof and keeps it from warping the washing machine later.

The finishing touch on these mittens will be the cuff made by her 1940's hand cranked sock knitting machine. You can see the black cuffs in pictures 1 and 3and our felt folded back in picture 2.

That's 100 thick wool mittens and matching llightweight mittens in 4 months! That's some homemade love. I know they will serve Indy's homeless well.

Sew on Diane!

Testing out a new organic latex cushion. Perhaps this one might make it to the stores.

Of course, you know you can order one in any fashion you want and in any design you want from our custom shop.

This cute bench featured in a tiny home has two cushions but just one case thar we sewed to connect the back and the bottom in one case. This bench cushion can be laid flat to turn into a bed.

We have used this design before when customers have asked for a Trifold cushion or a case for their latex when they plan on folding it up and tucking it in a corner during the day and getting it out of the way.

As you can see by the color, we used the customer's fabric for the outer case and our latex and fabric for the fill and inner case.

Custom options abound!

Behold! The many uses of wool felt (which we sell by the small piece in the Clearance section): A cabbage collar.

Purported to keep those pesky cabbage worms who hatch from eggs in the roots crawling up to the leaves and eating them, though I will say those white moths they turn into are rather pretty.

Alas! You can see that it was entirely unsuccessful on my cabbage. Oh well, at least my cucumbers and sweet potatoes are going gangbusters.

Hey all! We just wanted to announce our new look! Tell us what you think!

This could be your wool bench cushion. Thanks Erin, for sharing your inspiration with us!

Why would you want a wool cushion?

Wool is an heirloom fiber, meaning it will take longer than latex takes to break down. Consider giving it to your grandchildren.

Wool is versatile, meaning, say you use wool flake for this cushion, but get tires of it and want a comforter and some pillows. No problem! We can help you recomb that wool to a fluffy batting and sew it up for you.

Wool is made of keratin. Our skin is made of keratin. Do you see where I am going with this? The protein of wool is easily recognized as safe by our bodies, so much so that if you hop from a regular mattress onto a wool one, your heart rate can now slow into further relaxation.

A DIY wool topper sewn by a mama for her baby. That baby is going to sleep comfortably! Wool is just the right mix of soft and firm for a wee one.

While a topper might be just the first layer of a mattress for an adult, for an infant who doesn't sink through nearly as deep as an adult does, a 3" topper could be the perfect mattress.

Is your infant congested at night? I've had multiple parents tell me that when they ditched their conventional mattress and switched to our natural products, their baby's congestion disappeared.

Another custom order made well. Have I told you that in 10 years, I can count on one hand the number of times my sewing room has received a product return because of faulty stitching or broken zipper? We do good work.

This chair and its other kitchen table partners was custom made by a customer. He decided it was time to add in new foam, particularly latex foam that wasn't going to break down as quickly as his initial purchase did.

Two inches is the choice depth, but which firmness would you choose? Keep in mind that was only two in, you would sink through every firmness.

*Firm latex would feel soft and squishy to a sitter.
*Extra firm would significant padding.
*Hard would feel supportive and substantial.

Isn't that the nice thing about DIY? Customize the feel exactly as you like it.

Nice design, Nick! Thank you for sharing the photos. Have fun with your next bale of kapok!

Congrats to Holly and her family on being winner number 2! They wanted to add a new layer of batting to Wilhelmina‘s mattress so they shared a few pics.

By the way, the pictures I am sharing here are probably not the ones that are going up on the new website. You get to wait for the big reveal. I can't spoil all the fun, now can I? 😁
