"Hanging outside our Boyden Hall is BSU’s peace flag." This is one symbol to remind us of our commitment to peace and justice at BSU. How do you show your commitment to Peace on today, the United Nations’ International Day of Peace?

International Day of Peace

“Today marks the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, a day devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace. This also is a perfect time for all of us to recommit to the work of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on Friday. This is a perfect time for all of us to continue the fight for justice, for peace, and for equality.

Hanging outside our Boyden Hall is BSU’s peace flag. We fly flags as symbols by which to express solidarity with peoples who have been the targets of hate and violence, peoples who have been marginalized by racism, misogyny, homophobia, and hate and prejudices which seek to diminish us. As most of us know, the design of the new flag is based on Martin Richard’s expression of peace and hope as inscribed on the sign Martin is holding on his statue gracing University Park, a sign that he made in response to the death of Trayvon Martin.”

Read our full statement on the importance of this day and join us in promoting peace today and every day.

11 Good Deeds for 9/11

9/11 Day of Service & Remembrance is a chance to unify through service, we're sharing 11 ideas for you to get involved, and make a difference to help transform this country and honor those who stepped up in service to their neighbors 19 years ago.

"Honoring this moment in our nation’s history by serving in your community helps transform 9/11 into a day of unity, empathy, and service as an enduring and positive tribute to those lost and injured on 9/11, and the many who rose in service in response to the attacks, including first responders, recovery workers, volunteers and members of our military."

On 9/11 Day, and every day of the year, your good deeds, whatever they may be, can change the world for the better. Join us at 911day.org.

09/11/2020

Vote by Design and Bridgewater State University's Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice are teaming up to host an interactive, nonpartisan, digital workshop that will explore a new and innovative framework for thinking about who you vote for and why.

For Constitution Day, Vote by Design will reframe the decision-making process of voting away from “Which candidate do you like?" to instead ask, “What are the leadership qualities best suited to the job as framed by the Constitution?" and “What does the future need from this position?"
