Will you folks be hosting any events in July?

does anyone know if tonights showing (Sat) is taking place
Hello to you all,
I am eager to attend an event, when will the next night be? And may I bring my own scope? It's new (to me) and I would like some assistance on fine tuning visually... Thank you in adv.
ICYMI: In case you missed it...and you would have had to be living under a rock on another planet to do so...there was a Solar eclipse yesterday. While it was only a partial eclipse (63%) in Massachusetts, these photos shot at the Bridgewater State University Observatory show that locals were totally into it! Hoping to catch the next solar eclipse visible in the Bay State?
Mark your calendars for April 8, 2024.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped today. With so many people registered I never expected the day to go so smoothly! We really appreciate you offering this to the public.

We enjoyed a nice cool shady spot near the library with ice cold water available and enjoyed our time up in the observatory deck as well. You all did a fantastic job managing the crowds!
where do you register to view the eclipse?
I can't wait to see the eclipse on the weather channel tomorrow it's gonna be awesome I'm doing that because I don't have glasses plus I can see the whole eclipse
Where will you be during the total solar eclipse? BSU has a great event and there are many tips you should know before viewing! Bridgewater State University Observatory

The observatory will be closed tonight, May 15 - May 16. Even the most optimistic forecasts are predicting lots of clouds increasing throughout the eclipse along with a chance of rain.

BSU has an opening for a 1-year temp position to teach astrophysics next year!
https://jobs.bridgew.edu/postings/22212

The Department of Physics, Photonics and Optical Engineering at Bridgewater State University is a versatile and growing department making new and exciting strides in our curriculum and research. The department has access to high-end computational clusters and standard image reduction software. Overall, the department consists of approximately 60 majors, with over 20 majors pursuing undergraduate degrees with an astrophysics concentration. As a member of the APS Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Alliance, the department works to expand access and equity in the physics and astrophysics communities. The Department participates in the Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium, which provides funding to undergraduate researchers for observation and data analysis work. This position will work with a full-time observatory manager who coordinates a large public outreach effort as well as student observations obtaining photometric, astrometric, and spectroscopic observations using two 14” telescopes. Current student research interests include supernova, AGN reverberation mapping, exoplanets, and other variable objects.

Successful candidates will be staff members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.

Our Story

The BSU Observatory has an extremely active outreach program, and all events we run at the observatory are free of charge. During public nights, we use a combination of telescopes on our patio decks, mostly with 8-inch apertures, to view planets, stars, galaxies and nebulae. The dome houses a Celestron C-14 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope used primarily for student research. Call the observatory hotline (508-531-3275), check this page, or follow us on Twitter @BSUObservatory to find out whether the weather will allow an event to occur. You may also call the hotline or check our website (www.bridgew.edu/observatory) to find out opening times. Admission is always free.

If you are interested in scheduling a private viewing event for a group of 25 ore more people, please call the observatory office at 508-531-2093. We also run hands-on workshops geared toward K-12 students intended to occur immediately before a viewing event.

Two of our professors and a few of our experienced students also occasionally run Professional Development for teachers, or off-campus programs. These services, while not free, are relatively inexpensive and all of the funds go back into our program and to support our sister programs in CASE (the Center for the Advancement of STEM Education). To inquire about these programs, please call our office.
