Happy Birthday to our Sweetheart, First Lady and BSU Student Government Association President, Kyleigh Morin! We hope you have a great birthday weekend! 💜💛
My father Marco Antonio Cobar Garcìa and some of the families that surrounded Volcano Fuego need your help! Without any homes to call their own, they have been forced to live nowhere. My father has turned his property into a shelter home but needs your help to build for over 15 families. Please watch the video and donate whatever you can to support them. Oh, by the way, Happy birthday Marco Antonio Cobar Garcìa and I miss you and love you.

On this day of celebration, the Student Government Association would like to reaffirm our support for the Black Lives Matter Movement. SGA is committed to learning from and amplifying black voices. If you would like to learn more about why Juneteenth is important, check out this article: https://www.nytimes.com/article/juneteenth-day-celebration.html

06/09/2020

With protests happening around the country we can't forget that June is still Pride Month. With that being said the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement was built and led by q***r people of color from Marsha P. Johnson, an amazing transgender Black woman who in the wake of police brutality and prejudice against q***r people, led the Stonewall riots and started the "Gay Liberation Movement" which set off the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. To Audre Lorde, one of the first LGBTQIA+ to use art as activism in the community making pillars of feminism with her theories while she was at it. To modern-day trailblazers like the Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot and the current head of Human Rights Campaign Alphonso David. These leaders and many others affirm what we as a community and organization think. Black Trans Lives Matter! Black LGBTQIA+ Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter!

To the campus community –

On behalf of the Student Government Executive Board, I wanted to take this time to reaffirm the values we hold as Bridgewater State Bears. As some of you may remember, four years ago a values statement was shared across campus, stating what our community stands for. Four years ago, we adopted the following as an official statement of the university:
“In response to growing and widespread incivility, bigotry, and hostility, we, the undersigned members of Bridgewater State University, reaffirm the values of our community as a welcoming, compassionate, and intellectually rigorous learning, working, and living environment. We reject all forms of bias, discrimination, xenophobia, and violence. We re-commit ourselves to actions that put into practice our individual and institutional values of diversity, inclusion, and equality for all.” We, as an organization, and a campus community, believe in these values to their full extent.

Before we left for Spring Break, Student Government Association passed a resolution promoting the reaffirmation of these values. While our in-person plans we had for this initiative will be pushed until the Fall, we thought it would be nice to share this reminder with the community, especially in times when it may feel like we are so far from each other.

We also, as stated in our constitution, believe in the democratic process as outlined in Article II, Section 2: “To promote better citizenship by developing and promoting student responsibility and by providing practice in democratic living;” which means that all undergraduate students are eligible to vote for their student representatives, and all undergraduate students meeting the eligibility requirements are able to run for a seat on Student Government.

We encourage all students to vote for their representatives in the SGA Spring Elections next week on April 14, 15, 16 via the Involvement Network (in.bridgew.edu) or through the Mobile App.

Warmest regards,
Anna Rice
SGA President

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Christopher “Topher” Hession, 24. Topher was a Music Education Major, who transferred to BSU in 2017. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends, as well as the entire BSU community. At times like these, it is important to hold your loved ones closer, and lean on our strong Bear family.
