"There’s a reason we’re trained not to stand in front of the outlet when we hook a hydrant. Today on Vernon Avenue, Engine Co. 14 hooked the hydrant, turned the water on, and the threads of the outlet blew right off. Thankfully no one was injured." Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones in Philadelphia and New York. We are also praying for all of the first responders affected by these two devastating fires.

In Philadelphia, the cause of the fire is thought to have been a child playing with a lighter near a Christmas tree, as well as smoke detectors that had the batteries removed. In New York, a space heater is thought to be the cause, along with an open door allowing the fire to spread.

We encourage everyone to talk with your children about the dangers of playing with fire. Always remember: Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives!
