These predictions concern general home trends and the changing functions of rooms in the home:

Bathrooms are transforming from rooms of necessity to home well centers;

Master bedrooms will increase in square footage because many will include home offices;

Kitchens will be the new living rooms, open-concept rooms so that adults can keep an eye on children and multi-functional with desk space and comfortable seating

In addition, it was said that floor plans will be more open with larger windows for more natural light and outdoor spaces (backyards, patios, decks) will become more important as the home becomes the center of one’s life.
Some other 2020 TREND continuing...

There will also be 78% increase the use of streaming entertainment, and in general, technology will be more seamless and convenient and work better. The ability to control a home’s features will increasingly become more voice activated.

The speakers on this Zoom Presentation were Mary and Al Giaquinto of Plum Builders; Anthony Carrino of HGTV’s Kitchen Cousins and Warren Shoulberg, noted business journalist and editor.

We’d love to hear your “take” on these predictions.

Trends that resulted from 2020 lifestyle changes may continue as more people are living and working at home, and the home will continue to be more central to one’s life than ever.

According to the speakers at the IFDA’s Zoom presentation, “The Future of Home” :

Telecommuting is on the increase as people move to small towns and suburbs, away from large cities;

People have realized that telecommuting works and companies can save on office rents;

Some people who do custom builds want a zoom room, a quiet space in which to Zoom;

Home builders ask for Amazon Rooms in their garages with security features with refrigeration for deliveries of products and food;

Greater concern with HVAC and the ability to keep air clean; and

Mud rooms will be a place where people change from clothes worn outside the home to those inside the home.

This presentation was sponsored by the International Furnishings and Design Association, “Crystal Ball Project”. The speakers were:

Mary and Al Giaquinto of Plum Builders; Anthony Carrino, HGTV’s Kitchen Cousins and Warren Shoulberg, noted business journalist and commentator.

We’d love to hear your “take” on these trends,

I recently listed to a zoom presentation sponsored by IFDA on “The Future of Home 2030” and it was a must for anyone involved in the business of home, i.e. real estate or interior design.

The speakers were:

Mary and Al Giaquinto of Plum Builders
Anthony Carrino, HGTV’s Kitchen Cousins
Warren Shoulberg, noted business journalist and commentator

Here are some of the Mega Trends, as reported by an IFDA survey, are:

42% less stand alone homes
49% more multi-family homes
70% more home office spaces

In addition the Modern style of interior design will prevail, but the other popular design genres will continue.

Future emails will discuss more specific conclusions of the zoom presentation. Stay tuned!

We want you to be among the first to know that we have started a new interior design firm for clients in New York and the Hamptons.

Over the past several years, we've worked on many projects together, and clients have been delighted with our resources and creativity. And we've worked with many bold-faced names and celebrities as well.

The services we offer include: interior design, staging, construction management and the appraisals of decorative arts, primarily those of the 20th century.

Should you know anyone who is planning to renovate, decorate or move to a new residence, please keep us in mind.

In the meantime, please stay healthy and do whatever you can to enjoy the small things in life. Betsy and Eldon
