Shade, Succulents & Summer Prep

This Thursday at Veterans Coffee in the Garden, we’re helping veterans and the garden get ready for the summer heat.

We’ll be drinking coffee, potting up simple succulent cuttings, and building a shaded seedling shelter to help our young plants survive between weekly gatherings.

No gardening experience needed. No pressure. Come lend a hand, hang out, or just spend the morning around people who get it.

And if you think you have a black thumb, you’re especially invited. Growth doesn’t have to be perfect to be real.

Thursday, June 11
8:15–10:15 AM
601 Community Center
601 E Valencia Dr, Fullerton, CA

Today, we remember D-Day — June 6, 1944.

We honor the courage, sacrifice, and resolve of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy in defense of freedom.

Eighty-two years later, their legacy reminds us that service, sacrifice, and love of country are carried forward by every generation of veterans.

At Vital Roots Foundation, we believe the journey after service matters deeply. Our mission is to cultivate healing, purpose, and community connection for veterans through nature-based support, sustainable farming practices, and peer-led connection.

Today, we pause to remember those who gave everything, honor those who served, and recommit ourselves to caring for the veterans who continue the journey after the uniform comes off.

We remember. We honor. We continue the mission.

Small Kit. Real Story.

After the Fullerton College Memorial Day remembrance ceremony, one of the veterans who received our poppy seeds sent us this photo with the message:

“My poppy plant is blooming!”

Okay, maybe not quite blooming yet — but seeing those little seedlings coming up meant a lot to us.

These are the moments that remind us why we do this.

Vital Roots Foundation’s Nature in Reach kits are simple on purpose. A seed kit, a plant, an aromatherapy kit, or a small hands-on activity can become a quiet moment of care, reflection, and connection.

And when you share those updates with us, you help us see the impact beyond the resource table. You also help other veterans understand that this is for them too.

So please keep sending us your moments.

Send us the seedlings.
Send us the blooms.
Send us the quiet wins.
Send us the messy attempts that didn’t go as planned.

We grow better in community.

If you’ve received a Nature in Reach resource from Vital Roots Foundation, we’d love to hear from you.

Share your photo, your update, or your story with us.

Connection grows through small moments.

The last Friday of every month, the Long Beach VA hosts a Community Connection Hour from 8:00–10:00 AM, bringing together veterans, local nonprofits, and community partners.

This month was our first time representing Vital Roots Foundation, and we were honored to be part of it.

We shared a hands-on seed starting activity with veterans, and around 30 participants joined us to plant seeds, connect, and take home their own starter pots to begin their growing journey.

It was a beautiful morning of conversation, community, and connection — exactly what Vital Roots is all about. We were grateful to stand alongside so many incredible organizations serving veterans and to share our mission of cultivating healing, purpose, and community through nature.

Thank you to the Long Beach VA and everyone who stopped by our table. We’re excited to keep growing together.
