2. The Animal Control Officers (ACO) are often called away from the Shelter. We suggest that you call 270-422-2064 and make an appointment before you go there.
3. In the event of an after hours emergency involving an animal, phone Meade County Dispatch at 270-422-4172. They can reach the on-duty ACO.

GREAT NEWS FOR BOWLING GREEN!!
"On Tuesday, December 17th, The Bowling Green City Commission approved a trial period for the “Community Cat Program.” The trial period will run through June 30, 2021. After the trial run the city commission can then vote to permanently change city ordinances if they see fit.
The program, managed by the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society, will catch feral cats, spay or neuter them, and then release them back to the outdoors. The Petco Foundation gave the humane society a $90,000 grant this year for the program. It is meant to end the practice of euthanizing cats.
Bowling Green’s code of ordinances doesn’t allow for such a program. The order on Tuesday was needed to grant the program to run on a trial basis. If the trial is deemed successful the city commission could vote to amend current ordinances."
Feral cats in our community are cats that are healthy and thriving on their own without owners ... they are often found hanging around restaurants and trailer parks, where they keep the rodent populations in check. Most of them will not let you approach them. They are not sick, they are not really a nuisance, they are just cats living amongst us. In the past, when these cats were caught and brought to the shelter, our only option for them was to place them in a barn home for rodent control, if one were available, or to euthanize them, because we didn't have the space to keep them indefinitely and it could take months or years to tame a feral cat. This is not what anyone wants to do. This is why we have worked so hard to get the Community Cat Program up and running. Now when a feral cat comes to the shelter, we will spay or neuter it, give it all its vaccines, tip its ear so you can see from a distance that this cat is already altered, and then we take them back to the place they were found and release them. If you have feral cats in your neighborhood, let us know and we'll be happy to work with you to alter them to keep their numbers in check. If you see cats with their ears tipped, you'll know these are feral cats that have come thru the shelter, are altered, vaccinated and healthy and are just living their best life amongst us. It's a win for us and a win for the cats!

Kentucky law requires that outdoor animals be provided with suitable shelter and have fresh, unfrozen water available at all times. This is especially important in cold, wet, and freezing weather.
If you see a neglected animal - especially one chained out without shelter or water - please call and report it to your local animal control authorities, police department, or County Sheriff. An animal's life may very well depend on your reporting neglect. You can be anonymous when you report the situation to authorities.
We realize that not every dog outside in cold weather is "in danger". Some breeds love it. Still, better to have animal control do a welfare check than have an animal suffer and/or die from exposure. Thank you.

Glues can be dangerous to pets!

spay, neuter, microchip, get id tags, be responsible pet owners.. .we can make a difference if we try

With the weather predicted to be wet and cold, please remember outside pets. This website gives good advice about ways to help community cats. If you have dogs outside, PLEASE, make sure they have a well protected dog house with plenty of straw bedding and access to fresh water and food. Remember, if you’re cold, the pets will be cold too!

black dogs are the least adopted color. lets all remember its whats on the inside, not the outside that matters.

Mutts are much better than oodles of pure breds
Mutts are much better than oodles of pure breds What if, in 10 years, the dogs of the world were all oodles? You know the dogs I mean: the schnoodles, the goldendoodles, the cockapoos; the labradoodle. Poodle cross-breeds, the mop-haired balls of enthusiasm that, if you live in a dog-filled town, you see everywhere.

Adopted this Friday morning. 2 dogs! Same family!
Thank you for adopting!

Please remember this!

A reminder to all:
Stray animals only have to be held for FIVE days before they can be adopted, transferred to a bona fide rescue, or euthanized.. Our Shelter is small and we don't have a lot of choice but to try to move them. After 5 days, the fate of the animal is in the judgement of the Animal Control Officer.
Thus, if you are missing an animal, it is STRONGLY suggested you call the Shelter at 270-422-2064 and make an appointment to go and personally look for your pet. You should so this often, perhaps even daily.
We volunteers TRY to get and post pictures of all new intakes, but we have other thing going on in our lives, too. It is YOUR responsibility to look for your animal. AND, how you describe your pet may not match with that the ACO's see in your animal. Thus, GO TO THE SHELTER yourself!
"Surrendered" animals may be adopted, sent to rescue or euthanized AT ANY TIME AFTER they are surrendered.

This is SO important.
Instead of asking, "Is the dog good with kids," we should be asking, "Have the children been taught and shown how to be good with dogs?"

"No Kill" is - and will remain - a pipe dream until most owners spay/neuter all their pets. There are not enough shelters nor enough rescues and rescuers to solve this problem created by irresponsible owners.
PINS provides Spay/Neuter Vouchers to Meade County residents and for animals adopted from the Meade County Shelter.
Call 270 422-3838 for a voucher. Leave your name & phone. A volunteer will call back.

folks PLEASE DO IT ! way to many Pit Bulls and problems with them, Help reduce the head count of Pits and Pit mixes

Please spay/neuter ALL your pets.
Its spring and its that time of year when dogs tend to go missing, especially unaltered young male dogs. We get posts and posts of dogs who are missing with photos, but often it is hard to identify the dog in the picture.
its absolutely invaluable to have a good clean face shot in good light so you can see the details of the animals face, and a good clean side shot of the animal standing preferably showing identifying marks.
these pictures should be updated once a year, just like with your child.
