Improving the quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer by funding needed support services in Northern Virginia and the surrounding community.
www.stepsisters.org The Step Sisters are a team of women and men in Loudoun Countyโs Brambleton community and beyond that joined together seven years ago to take on the challenge of fighting breast cancer. We are made up of breast cancer survivors as well as mothers, sisters, daughters, brothers, sons and fathers who have all been touched by this terrible disease. The Step Sisters have raised more

Dear Donors, Supporters, and Volunteers,
On behalf of the breast cancer patients we serve, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your support in 2022. Your generosity and dedication have allowed us to provide vital resources and support to those facing one of the toughest battles of their lives.
Your contributions have made it possible for us to offer quality of life services and financial crisis assistance to those in need. Your volunteer hours helped us to gift more than 1,000 Chemo Care Bags to patients. Your support meant that patients facing this disease did not have to feel lost and alone.
We cannot thank you enough for your commitment to our cause. Your support has helped to bring hope and healing to countless individuals and families. We are truly grateful for all that you do to help us make a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer in our area.
You have our heartfelt thanks and gratitude. ๐

Support during breast cancer treatment is important for several reasons:
Emotional support: Breast cancer can be an emotionally challenging experience, and having a strong support system can provide comfort, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.
Practical support: Treatment for breast cancer can involve multiple appointments, surgeries, and other medical procedures, which can be physically and mentally exhausting. Support from family and friends can help manage daily tasks, such as childcare and transportation, to alleviate some of the burden.
Coping with side effects: Breast cancer treatment can cause a range of side effects, such as fatigue, nausea, and pain, which can impact daily life. Support from loved ones can help manage these side effects and provide a sense of comfort and care.
Coping with financial stress: Breast cancer treatment can be expensive, and the added financial burden can be overwhelming. Support from family and friends can help alleviate some of the financial strain.
Promoting healing: Studies have shown that a strong support system can improve patient outcomes, including faster recovery and better physical and mental health. Support can provide a sense of hope, which can be an important factor in the healing process.
The Step Sisters are here to help patients in Northern Virginia. ๐

The Step Sisters fight breast cancer differently โ by raising funds to provide practical services and crisis support for area patients as they battle the disease.
Practical quality of life help is important for cancer patients because this disease can be physically and emotionally draining. It can affect a person's ability to work and earn a living, as well as their overall well-being. Practical help can include financial assistance for medical bills and treatments, transportation to and from appointments, and support for daily living tasks such as grocery shopping and housekeeping.
Cancer can be a very isolating experience and practical help can provide a sense of community and support for patients and their families. This can be especially important for those who do not have a strong support network or who may be going through treatment alone.
The Step Sisters organization provides cancer patients with the resources and support they need to manage their disease and maintain a sense of normalcy in their daily lives. This can be crucial in helping them to maintain a positive outlook and continue their treatment journey with hope and resilience.
Until there's a cure, the Step Sisters will be here.

How a friend's death from cancer inspired Thrive Causemetics founder
We are grateful to be a Thrive Causemetics Giving Partner. Patients receiving one of our Chemo Care Bags are fortunate to get an amazing gift of Thrive Causemetics thanks to this partnership. Understanding the founderโs connection to cancer makes it that much more meaningful. Thank you, Karissa Bodnar and Thrive Causemetics!

How a friend's death from cancer inspired Thrive Causemetics founder After losing her friend Kristy, Karissa Bodnar wanted her company to help women going through hard times to look and feel their best.

The holiday season can be a difficult time for breast cancer patients for a variety of reasons. Some people may feel overwhelmed by the added responsibilities and stress that come with the holiday season, such as gift shopping, cooking and hosting, or traveling. Others may feel isolated or left out if they are unable to participate in holiday gatherings due to treatment or physical limitations. Additionally, the winter months can be challenging for people undergoing cancer treatment, as they may be more prone to illness due to a weakened immune system.
Here are a few tips that may help breast cancer patients cope with the challenges of the holiday season:
Set boundaries: It's okay to say no to invitations or activities that may be too overwhelming or physically demanding. It's important to prioritize self-care and rest during treatment.
Get support: Reach out to friends and family for help with tasks or just for emotional support. Consider joining a cancer support group or talking to a therapist for additional support.
Take care of your physical health: Stay warm and dress in layers to protect against the cold. Avoid crowds and wash your hands frequently to reduce the risk of getting sick. Get plenty of rest and follow your treatment plan as prescribed by your healthcare team.
Find alternative ways to celebrate: If you are unable to attend holiday gatherings in person, consider connecting with loved ones virtually or finding other ways to celebrate, such as watching a movie or having a small, low-key celebration at home.
Seek out resources, such as the Step Sisters. Ask your healthcare team for information on available support services. ๐

The holidays are a time of giving, and what better way to spread joy and cheer than by supporting a local charity, like the Step Sisters. According to a report from Giving USA, charitable giving in the United States reached an all-time high in 2022, with over $450 billion donated to various causes. While it is important to support national and international organizations, giving back to local charities has a more direct and tangible impact on our community.
Supporting local charities allows for funds to be invested directly into the community, rather than being funneled through national or international organizations. This can help to address specific needs within the community and provide assistance to those who may not have access to larger charities. It also helps to strengthen the local economy and support small businesses, as many local charities rely on the support of these businesses to fund their operations.
Supporting local charities during the holidays is an important way to give back to the community and make a positive impact. By investing in the needs of the community, we can help to build stronger, more connected communities and make a lasting difference. ๐

There are only a couple of weeks left to make a tax-deductible gift to the Step Sisters in the 2022 calendar year! Now is the time to support our efforts to provide crisis support and quality of life services to breast cancer patients in Northern Virginia.
Your support is critical to our organization as we strive to reach our goal to not only increase a patientโs quality of life, but also decrease her obstacles to treatment. And, your year-end gift will help ensure that we do not have to turn any patients in need away.

Only a couple of weeks left to make your 2022 charitable donation to the Step Sisters.

Our Crisis Fund is only a small piece of the work the Step Sisters do for breast cancer patients in Virginia. Designed to meet critical needs in the areas of housing, utilities and food stability, the Step Sisters' Crisis Fund provides support to patients experiencing a financial emergency during treatment. Studies show that personal and financial difficulties can cause breast cancer patients to delay or even stop their treatment. Our organization's goal is to not only increase a patientโs quality of life, but also decrease her obstacles to treatment.
Your year-end gift will help ensure that we do not have to turn any patients in need away.

As the holidays approach and 2022 winds down, don't forget to do your year-end gifting before the hustle and bustle of the season. We would be grateful to be your charity of choice! https://stepsisters.org/make-a-donation/make-a-donation/

Does your company match donations? Employee match programs are a benefit that companies offer to encourage and reward giving among their staff. Think of this as FREE MONEY you are empowered to employ on behalf of your community and the world. Most companies will match an employeeโs gift to a charity one-to-one, but others match gifts two-to-one, and some even match donations three-to-one! This means that your gift to a charity can be worth two to four times as much as you donate.
Every donation--regardless of size--has the power to make a difference. We would be grateful for your year-end donation. And, check with your employer for a matching program! https://stepsisters.org/make-a-donation/make-a-donation/

Christmas came early this year with a generous donation and Run The Greenway sponsorship from FuturElitez Private Soccer Training! We're so grateful for their support of our cause.

Our Crisis Fund is only part of what we do for breast cancer patients in our area.
