A rifle and a spinning rod let you reach out and take an animal from a distance. Effective, ethical, enjoyable. Nothing wrong with it.
But a bow and a fly rod make you do the hard thing. Close the gap. Fool its eyes, ears, and nose. Get so close that one mistake ruins everything.
The skill was never pulling the trigger. The skill is deception. Fooling a wild animal on its own ground, on its own terms.
Same sport. Same seasons. Just different levels.

Why do I keep going back?
Because the empty days taught me patience. The miles taught me I'm stronger than I thought. The cold mornings alone reminded me I'm never really alone out there.
Every excuse, every what if, is the reason I go. It was never really about the animal. It's about who I become chasing it, and the God who made all of it.
This one took everything I had. That's exactly why it means this much.

Your arrows are impossible to find after a miss. Here's how I wrap mine so they stand out in the brush and look clean doing it. Strip the shaft, pick your direction, keep the cleanest edge on the overlap, and roll it down with even pressure. That's it. Now they're ready to fletch and way easier to track down when you blow a shot. What's your go-to wrap color?
Cheapest bow build I could put together. Dad's old bow, the cheapest rest and sight I could find, and a dozen Phoenix-X arrows. Building, tuning, and shooting the whole thing to see if a budget setup can actually hunt.
Forty bucks a dozen. Three bucks a shaft. Built these Amazon arrows into straight-shooting meat missiles, then sent them at 40 yards. Group don't lie.
Your medkit is in the wrong spot.
Top of the pack? Useless when your pack is 600 yards behind you. Hip belt is better, but still not it. Bleed control rides in my bino harness now. The one thing that never comes off my body.
