Happy Halloween from the WKU Orchestra Trumpet Section. They played a spooky Halloween program with the Orchestra on Friday night! Highlights included "Russian Troll" by Matthew Herman and Dvorak's "The Noon Witch".

It’s been a busy week in the studio! Wonderful performances by all.
Congratulations to seniors Noah Gawarecki and Jacob Ward on their recital this evening!
Earlier this week we also had a studio recital with performances by Alexandra Hendricks, Jillian McLellan, Austin Epley, Madison Sanker, Caleb Fudge and Kristen Decker.
Thank you to collaborative pianists, Dr. Christina Lai and Ken Stein for working with the trumpet studio.

This week’s Western Kentucky University Trumpet Studio Student Spotlight is Jillian McLellan!
Jillian is a Junior Music Education Major at WKU and she previously attended Logan County High School. Jillian plays in many of the ensembles at WKU including the WKU Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Trumpet Ensemble, Treble Chorus and the Big Red Spirit Marching Band. In the future she plans to direct or teach band and maybe teach a small trumpet studio.
A fun fact about Jillian is that her favorite Disney Movies are Hercules and the Princess and the Frog!

This week’s Western Kentucky University Trumpet Studio Student Spotlight is Austin Epley!
Austin is a Junior at WKU working towards his Bachelor of Arts in Music. He attended Logan County High School. Austin is currently a member of the WKU Symphonic Band, Spirit Marching Band, Jazz Band and Trumpet Ensemble. His future plans include a career in music production working with sound, lighting and video.
A fun fact about Austin is that he likes to play piano at his church.

The WKU Trumpet Ensemble competed today at the National Trumpet Competition! It was an excellent performance of "Birds of Paradise" By Erik Morales that demonstrated the outstanding growth that has resulted from the students' hard work and dedication. Bravo!

The WKU Trumpet Studio had an amazing time hosting our guest artist, Joey Tartell(Professor of Trumpet, Indiana University) for the WKU Honor Band weekend and PRISM concert. While on campus, Joey lead trumpet warm up classes, brass masterclasses and performed with the WKU Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Faculty Brass Quintet.
A huge thank you to Professor Tartell for spending the past several days with us at WKU. We all learned so much from you!

This week’s Western Kentucky University Trumpet Studio Student Spotlight is Devin Mcgarry
Devin is a freshman music education major at WKU. He attended Jefferson Town High School in Louisville, KY. Devin is currently a member of the WKU Big Red Marching Band, and the WKU Trumpet Ensemble. In the future he plans to compose music and write for bands and other music.
A fun fact about Devin is that he has played trumpet since the 6th grade and enjoys playing tennis!

It was a busy weekend for the WKU Trumpet Studio! Congratulations to the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band Trumpet sections who performed an excellent concert of "Folk Songs to Funk" at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center.

This week’s Western Kentucky University Trumpet Studio Student Spotlight is Alexandra Hendricks!
Allie is a junior at WKU and she is majoring in Photojournalism with a minor in Music. She is from New York, where she attended Washingtonville High School. Allie is currently a member of the WKU Symphonic Band and WKU Trumpet Ensemble. In the future she plans to work for a newspaper as a photographer and play trumpet in local ensembles.
A fun fact about Allie is that she has played piano for 14 years!
Allie has also done all of our trumpet studio photography.

It was a great afternoon of Brass Music today in a recital featuring all of the WKU Brass Studio Ensembles. Bravo Tutti!

It’s been another great concert week at WKU! Bravo to the WKU Symphony Trumpet section on an exciting Halloween concert last night. The program included works by Mussorgsky and Berlioz as well as an outstanding collaboration of WKU dancers, vocalists and the orchestra in a performance of Kurt Weill’s, "Seven Deadly Sins." Bravo Tutti!

A huge thank you to Michael Mergen, Professor of Trumpet from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music for a wonderful masterclass at WKU this morning! We were all inspired by your encouraging words!

The BRMB Trumpets were on the move this weekend!

This week’s Western Kentucky University Trumpet Studio Student Spotlight is Caleb Fudge.
Caleb is a junior Music Education major at WKU. He is from Glasgow, KY where he attended Glasgow High School. Caleb is currently a member of the WKU Symphonic Band, the Big Red Marching Band, WKU Jazz Band and the WKU Trumpet Ensemble. In the future he plans to be a high school or middle school band director!!
A few fun facts about Caleb:
He enjoys playing sports and working out, going out on the lake, and playing PS4.

Madison is a sophomore Music Education major at WKU. She is from Mascoutah, Illinois where she attended Mascoutah High School. Madison plays in the Big Red Marching Band and the WKU Trumpet Ensemble. In the future she plans to be a high school band director!
A few fun facts about Madison:
She is in the inaugural first class of female Eagle Scouts and has earned both major awards in Girl Scouts and Scouts BSA.
She likes to embroider and sew quilts and other projects
She went to Southwestern Illinois College as a Junior and Senior in high school where she graduated with an Associate of Arts and Associate of Fine Arts.

Kristen is a freshman at WKU pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Liberal Arts. She is currently a member of the WKU Trumpet Ensemble and the Big Red Marching Band. In the future she plans to practice more, join the WKU Symphonic and Jazz Bands, get better and continue to play trumpet in her future career.
