The inspiration for this portrait series came from observing the interesting and unique outfits that some people wear when they work. I decided to photograph everyone against the same background with standardized lighting so that their personality, pose and outfit would tell the story of what they do.

Thanks Jim!

For the next 10 consecutive days I’ll be posting my favorite portraits. I sincerely hope that you find them as engaging, moving and revealing as I do.
As a portrait photographer I'm always very grateful when people agree to work with me. I do my best to honor them by creating images that reveal something unique about their personality. One of the most powerful moments I’ve ever had behind the lens happened when I had the honor of photographing some local Firefighters.
As I was working with Jake one of his colleagues noticed that he had a flag in the inside pocket of his bunker jacket. The flag was folded in the "13-Fold" pattern so we immediately knew it had special meaning. Jake explained to us that wrapped inside the flag were "goodbye letters to his family in case something happened". The mood became quite somber as we all knew exactly what “something” meant.
It was an intense and revealing moment when he raised the flag to his heart and looked directly into the camera and into me at the same time. I could feel the sincere, powerful connection and it was truly quite moving.
Thanks Jake!

Another favorite of Jim for the What I Wear To Work portrait series. This is the clean suit he wears when he grinds carbon fiber to make custom ski boots.

This is Derrick who's currently moonlighting at LTD Cycleworx as a fit model while he continues to look for a new contract with a Bro-Tour level cycling team. A self-described "complete rider" who can't climb, time trial or sprint Derrick said that while he's "living the dream" working at the shop he hopes his days as a bike racer are not finished.

As a portrait photographer I'm always very grateful when people agree to work with me and I do my best to honor them by creating images that reveal something unique about their personality. One of the most powerful moments I've ever had behind the lens happened late last year when I had the honor of photographing some local Firefighters.
