May Player of the Month: John O’Connor!

If enthusiasm were a padel shot, John would have mastered it by now.

John brings a unique energy to the club that is impossible to miss. Whether it’s his big smile, his eagerness to jump into a match, or his constant pursuit of improvement, he shows up every day with the same passion for the game and if you’ve spent any time around him, you’ve probably heard some version of: “Coach Enzo told me to do this… so I need to do this more!”

John is always working on his game, always trying something new on court, and always chasing that elusive Zone 3 on his fitness tracker. For him, padel isn’t just a sport, it’s an opportunity to learn, compete, and have fun all at the same time.

What makes John truly special, though, is the way he builds community around him. He has a gift for making new players feel welcome, creating meaningful connections on and off the court, and introducing friends to the sport he loves. His excitement for padel is contagious, and our community is stronger because of it.

April Player of the Month: Gwyn Whalen 🎾

If consistency had a face for the month of April, it would be Gwyn.

Throughout April, Gwyn has fully immersed herself in the padel grind: showing up for lessons, group clinics, open matches, and even stepping into tournaments to push herself and take her game to the next level. Her determination to improve is impossible to miss, and she keeps getting better every single time she steps onto the court.

But what makes Gwyn truly special is the energy she brings with her. Always encouraging, always smiling, and always competing with the perfect attitude — no matter the score. She plays hard, lifts up the people around her, and makes every match more enjoyable to be a part of.

One of our favorite things about Gwyn is that padel has become a family affair. Seeing her come to the club with her husband and children to share the joy of the sport is exactly what our community is all about.

We’re incredibly lucky to have someone like Gwyn helping grow the spirit of our padel family ❤️

One of the best things about padel is that it can be as competitive as you want, but it never stops being social.

That’s what makes tournaments like the USPA 100 so special. The rallies are intense, the competition is real but these photos capture what we’re most proud of at Smash. What stays after the last point is played: community and camaraderie.
