2 time Olympic Silver Medalist - Strength training is one of the main things to help you achieve in sport. If you are not doing it you likely won’t reach your goals.

Here is our list of the hierarchy of importance (in the order)

1️⃣ SLEEP
2️⃣ TRAIN WITH CONSISTENCY
3️⃣ Fuel well to support sport demands
4️⃣ STRENGTH TRAIN periodized around training.

Then you can talk to me about marginal gains. Otherwise if we are being honest…you’re focusing on the wrong things..

Notice I did not mention Mental Health. This is something we consider LIFE important. Which supersedes all and actually plays a factor in all of the above as well.

Main takeaway. From a Physical Performance perspective. If you are not strength training, you are handicapping yourself.

THE RUN FASTER MUSCLE 💪

Your hip flexors dictate a lot about your gait.

It could be the reason why you are not running faster.

It could also be the reason why you are getting injured.

Flexion and extension of the hips are a big part of your gait. Unfortunately most athletes overlook training the hip, loaded into flexion.

Miniband marches are good. But again you need adequate load to get the right response.

Give these a try! Start with 10-15 lbs in the cable machine.

Slow and controlled to start!

WANT TO LEVEL UP YOUR PUSHUPS? 🎚️

Enter the power band push-up. Extra stability required.

To do it well:
🔸 slow and controlled
🔸 no bouncing

Working up to a push up?

Start with the TRX push up.
🔸 standing closer to the rack = harder
🔸 standing further from rack = easier
🔸 choose your starting point and progress from there!

As always remember it’s not about only 1 exercise. HOW your program is structured and then periodized is MORE important.

FIX HIGH HAMSTRING PAIN 💥🦵

If you have tried everything and your high hamstring is still grumpy at you… give this a shot!

We call this one the Sara Vaughn special. We started doing these to see if if could help her! Turns out it did. So we tried it with a ton of other athletes…guess what?

Turns out it’s pretty darn effective! I think .austin.nestor would agree!

Keep in mind we didn’t JUST do this exercise.

🔸We warmed up the muscles in the hip complex that control internal and external rotation first.

🔸Then we worked on creating length in the front line to address any reciprocal inhibition.

🔸We also incorporated traditional eccentric movement to lengthen the whole posterior chain under load.

🔸Remember it is never about one exercise. We methodically dissected the key bottlenecks that allow us to get the maximum impact of the exercise.

If you are a runner, cyclist, triathlete or trail runner strength can be one of your most powerful weapons. If coached correctly.

Don’t just do any strength. Find someone who studies the science, your sport and knows how to integrate it all together.

Strength is the combination of all things movement and performance.

Prehab
Mobility
Strength
Endurance (muscular)
Power
Plyometrics
Sport specificity
Hormonal balance

Stop thinking of strength as just lifting weights.

We cover the entire movement spectrum. If you’re going to do it… do it right!

Runners, triathletes, trail and cyclists. Do not skimp. Prioritize strength if you are actually serious about your performance.

The actual most undertrained movement for runners is rotation 🌪️

Rotation is key for
🔸Power
🔸Hip health
🔸Spine health
🔸Speed

Runners tend to only focus on “anti rotation” exercises where you resist rotation. (Planks etc.)

Alongside rotation through mobility work, actually rotating fluidly is a huge low hanging fruit!

Plus, it’s kinda fun 🤩

Collen is a former NCAA track athlete. He received his Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology and trained as a Strength Intern

Collen doesn’t take himself too seriously but leaves no stone unturned in the weight room.

He believes that the weight room should be a fun place where serious performance improvements can be made!
