The Improv Collaborative
Through classes, workshops, and performances, we explore what it means to be fully in the moment. That's the power of improv!

"Beginning Improv - The Improv Sampler" starts January 14. It is an adventurous tour of the two different forms of improv: short and long form. Short form is a game format where, within a structure, comedic antics ensue. The show Whose Line is it Anyway? is short form. Long form is scenic and narrative. It relates improv to the real world. In addition to exercises, games and two performances, the class leans toward developing comradery. When we trust and feel supported by our fellow players, we are more creative. It's an excellent way to have fun, make friends and explore the unknown. Comedy is a side affect, not a goal. It happens organically!

Geared to the newcomer, this class introduces the two main forms of improv: the short-form games as seen in Whose Line is it Anyway and long form – scene exploration. Basic tools are presented with a focus on building confidence with the unknown. Improvisors,
The text below is from Nick Armstrong and Josh Nicols, owners of Voodoo Comedy Playhouse in Denver. I had run-in with the person discussed last autumn. Though he has a brillant resume, my time with him was difficult and uncomfortable. I consider Josh a good friend and value his judgement. I am grateful they raised the red flag on this guy. Our improv community looks out for each other:
"We are making our community aware of a man that now lives in Boulder, CO. We have let the theaters know of what is happening and the Boulder community has already had a negative experience with him. He has started hitting up theaters in Denver and may be looking to start his own. But this is an article about him. Please read and beware. A lot of Chicago friends of ours have said he's very bad news. He denies all the charges against him but from what I’ve seen and the outpouring of stories that came out it’s hard to deny."
Brian Posen is gone. Stage 773 goes on. After the powerful Chicago comedy-scene figure's departure amid harassment allegations, the theater behind SketchFest begins a new era without him.
