Installed the first, and smallest, of twelve planters I'm building for a rooftop garden in Morrison, CO. Raw steel with a matte clear coat framing red cedar with a shou sugi ban (Japanese wood burning) treatment/finish.
Shou sugi ban naturally makes the cedar resistant to fire, rot, and insects, and involves torching, brushing, cleaning, and oiling the boards. If anyone wants to learn about the wood burning treatment and finish feel free to swing by the shop, there's over a quarter mile of boards to burn for this project!
Special thanks to Travis Popiel and Green Man Landscaping for the contract and the action shots!
Rebar has been one of the materials getting a lot of shop time recently; here is a piece that was used for trim between the wood plank ceiling and wall of a camper. The back was buffed to match the angle between the boards so as it's screwed in it seats itself properly.

Continuously playing around with a growing variety of tools and materials means more ideas for future projects. Got something interesting to use for a project? Swing on by the shop, we'll get you sorted out.

Last year I made a set of rustic gift boxes for a wedding in Moab (see them in the "photos" folder), and this past week that customer asked me to come up with a first anniversary gift. He was looking for something with a similar rustic style, and since it is the "paper" anniversary I suggested a Moab-themed paper cutout with shadow box. Done entirely by hand, I think it came out pretty neat!
If anyone wants to try making one let me know!

Data Center words of wisdom for anyone else powering through some projects today...
Looks like I can skip trying to find a pair of eclipse glasses as I just found out I can use my welding helmet!

Phase 3 complete! The Colorado Chairs and matching benches are ready for some epic sitting! After some quick nail gun upholstery work the futons are in place and not moving anytime soon. Working while the festival grounds came alive with final tweaks and sound checks was a great experience, can't wait to get back in there tonight to see people enjoying the setup.
Cheers!

Made from cold-rolled steel I-beams and heavyweight wooden timbers, this solid piece of furniture is not only a head-turner but also quite comfortable! Combine with a futon of your color and style for the perfect addition to your living space.
