Once again, picking faves is not my thing. But here are a few that stood out while I was skimming the 44-page document that contains my favorite sayings. 📄📄📄
“Genius is another word for magic, and the whole point of magic is that it is inexplicable.”
-- Margot Fonteyn, dancer
“Creativity is paying attention and putting a light on things we might otherwise overlook.”
~Wendy MacNaughton, graphic journalist
"Everything will be all right in the end. And if it's not all right, then it isn't the end.
~From the movie: Exotic Marigold Hotel
"And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." ~Anais Nin
“The greater the artist, the greater the doubt.
Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize.”
~ Robert Hughes

I’m an indoorsy girl, through and through. My favorite spots are under a warm blanket in a dim room with a good book. Despite my Caribbean roots, my love for the beach is moderate (I prefer mountains, curiously enough) and I find the outdoors often overwhelming. The abundance and chaos of life veers on too much for my sensitive soul that craves order and simplicity.
The Scientist would spend every moment outdoors, if he could. Rain, sun, cold… doesn’t matter a bit. His greatest joys recently have been creating the garden of his dreams. He comes in after a full day of work—all his joints screaming in pain, I know—light, smiling, and peacefully delighted.
I am happy for him but do not share his joy. It’s curious to me, but not appealing.
I wonder about my aversion, but not very much. I get bad reactions from some folks, but it also doesn’t matter.
My way through this doesn’t have to be like anyone else.
My favorite outdoor activities?
***Being okay with however I feel about it.
***Allowing that what makes me uncomfortable is not any less magical than what I love.
***Remembering that wonder often dwells just outside my understanding.
👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 Where can a sense of wonder (instead of aversion or resistance) bring more ease in your life?
And if, perhaps, you are interested in seeing your world through wonder-filled glasses, that’s what I do.

Day 5
Favorite book?
No way. That’s like asking what’s my favorite breath or my favorite kiss. 💋
Instead, here’s one that might become your next favorite. (Book, that is. You’re on you’re own for the kiss.) 😘
You can find all the favorite book candidates at
Or, you can tell me what’s already on your list. 🧏🏽♀️

Three feels like waaay too small a number for gratitude. (There I go again, making things harder than they should be.)
🤷🏽♀️
Here goes…
1. All the folks who keep picking me up even when I’m completely impossible (*cough* all the time)
2. Days that feel like a meander down a gentle stream
3. Moody Seattle weather (can you tell I fit in really well here?)

The power of rhythm and ritual has never been so clear to me, after years of displacement and disruption.
One of my short-term goals is the DAILY connection to those facets of my life which provide deep nourishment to me:
🌟meditation
🌟movement
🌟making art
🌟learning
🌟loving

Self-care is less about spa visits and mud masks (although I love those) and more about the present moment awareness of my needs. Sometimes it’s a nap, other times it’s letting myself be immersed in my work. It can be speaking my truth or holding my tongue.
I allow every moment to guide me.
How about you? What does self-care mean to you?

There’s a lot of advice bouncing around in the space we find ourselves. Medical, spiritual, ethical, professional, parental, organizational…
I could go on.
While most of it comes from good intention, it very well might be the exact wrong thing for you.
🚫🙅🏽♀️❌
Work more, rest more, be more active, be more still, keep a tight schedule, let it all go.

IMHO, we are in the perfect space to seed a really juicy question. One whose answer only YOU have.
I TRUST that you know what you need, even if it’s currently buried under all the cacophony.
***What does this time ask of you?***
h/t to my beautiful, wonderful, amazing friend and coach, for all the wise, funny, poignant goodies she’s shared with me over the years.
