It was a pleasure hosting the Nelson & Lindsey Fellows at the Supreme Judicial Court on June 22, 2026. The Nelson & Lindsey Fellowship Program is named for the late federal judges David S. Nelson and Reginald Lindsey. I had the privilege of knowing both of these men while they served on the bench. They would be proud of this program that offers undergraduate students the opportunity to explore the legal field from many angles. They are an engaging group with bright futures.

I had the opportunity to speak with the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy 2026 summer Fellows when they visited the Supreme Judicial Court on June 18th. We gathered in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Courtroom (the courtroom assigned to my office) where they first heard remarks from SJC Chief Justice Kimberly S. Budd. Following was a panel discussion with Massachusetts Appeals Court Justice Gloria Tan, SJC Clerk for the Commonwealth Maura Looney, and me. We discussed our paths to our respective roles in the courts and answered questions.

These particular Fellows are among the brightest in their law schools. They intend to use their legal education in the public sector upon graduation.

A day to reflect, recharge, and rejoice. Remembering this date in our nation’s history—June 19, 1865.

Honored to speak at the Massachusetts Bar Association’s 4th Annual Juneteenth Reception on June 17. This year’s theme was “When the People Rise: How Black Collective Resistance Drives Reform.”

After the reception and program, attendees walked together to the Embrace statue on the Boston Common and sang “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Had a great time at “A Night Supporting State Representative Jeffrey Rosario Turco” in beautiful Winthrop. It was nice chatting with the people of Winthrop, and nearby Revere.

Boston City Hall Plaza has been transformed into 2026 FIFA FanFest. I had a chance to join in the festivities this afternoon. It was a rich mosaic of diverse people and cultures. There is so much to see and do, but you have to get a free ticket to enter. Here’s the link: https://bostonfwc26.com/fifa-fan-festival/.

Really got into the spirit celebrating Reverend Miniard Culpepper’s 30th pastoral anniversary this afternoon. As the ancestors used to say, “there was a whole lot of church going on in church today.” In addition to pastoring Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Culpepper is a Boston City Councilor and an attorney. ✝️

Had a truly amazing time at what is hoped to be the first annual Juneteenth Brunch! Register Stephanie L. Everett of the Suffolk County Probate & Family Court organized and flawlessly executed this event. 👏🏾✨

The community showed up, elected officials showed up. We were treated to live performances of song and dance, inspiring remarks by US Senator Ed Markey who was a part of making this a national holiday, a phenomenal keynote address by Dr. Michael Curry who took us on a journey to understand the historical implications of slavery. Register Everett spoke to us about the importance of sharing our trials and triumphs with our neighbors much in the tradition of borrowing sugar—our favors were a jar of sugar. And the food was delicious. Here’s to next year!
