Why Niger, Why Now?
For the staff, faculty, artisans and families who made the BU Niger program successful for 25 years, the possibility of securing alternative employment with 3 months notice is very small. The national employment rate is so low that it is not even measured. After 25 years of reliable income, the staff and faculty who have been supporting their families and communities by working for the BU program have limited options. As alumni who are still in touch with these important people to our lives, we believe it is our duty to do anything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible. Severance pay for BU Niger staff and faculty ended in March 2012, so the time to act is now!
