Music, and the arts, can have a profound impact on our traumas. They can become pathways to processing information differently, which is especially difficult for veterans.
Please consider attending this event to learn more about the ways music and Post-Traumatic Stress connect, and how music can be so helpful.
This kind of information can be important for the continual support of your local arts programs. They offer so much more than you think!

Hola, amigos!
We are back with another improv-for-all related project. We wanted to share to a Spanish improv mixer on July 3rd, from 2-3. The previous one had many skills levels of Spanish. It's online, free, and run by one of the best improv instructors around:
Link in bio!
Please invite any and all Spanish speakers, there are still spots, and we want to see leaders developed in the improv community from this work!

Improv training can be useful in many ways. Volunteers for Meals On Wheels do not just drop off food, daily dropoffs are also a check-in for residents. For many people, this may be the only social contact during a pandemic. The public health impact of isolation and loneliness are not well known, but may be a significant concern.
This is where improvisational creativity and training can have a multiplier effect. A check-in is rarely longer than a minute or two, but improv training can allow a person to actively listen, to connect for that time, and to provide that "Yes, and..." moment where validation is so important
Without getting too deep into the training, the connection made through active listening and validation can be a moment a person needs to remind them that they are not alone in the world. It can be a memory replayed over and over again, it can be something a person looks forward to brighten their day!

We need your help! We are looking for a researcher for our next project!
- We want to increase Rhode Island's access to improv.
- Our focus is on communities of color, non-English speaking, and differently-abled people.
- We are working to get funding for this.
- Funders want to see ways to measure improv's impact.
- Measuring improv's impact means finding a scientist/researcher and including their work in a proposal!
- A successful funding proposal means paying the researcher and the instructors who will be teaching the improv classes!
Do you know any graduate students or researchers who can become a part of the Access to Improv Initiative? Please let us know!

One of our continuing projects is improving the teleconferencing experience for people. Occasionally we stumble upon a story of someone going above and beyond with their creativity. This Texas history teacher visited the places that she would eventually teach about online, providing an interactive experience for her students, and giving us some ideas for an event in the future.
Read/listen about it here: https://www.npr.org/2020/09/11/911828412/texas-history-teacher-hosts-virtual-lessons-while-on-historical-road-trip
What ideas do you have for teleconferencing that you can share with others?
We have two more class on "How Not To Be A Talking Head" this week for free! (Or Pay What You Can). Register here: https://runimprovmarathon.com/how-not-to-be-a-talking-head/
