This weekend I cooked bamboo shoots over an open fire at 's "Woodswoman 101" course.
I also set up a "Bamboo Education Station" and taught four new women how to make a broom from a cane of bamboo and its branches.

The tops of a new Boryana shoot are absolutely gorgeous.
This species was used as a model for our logo!

Sometimes the aerial roots of a new "teenage" shoot will be this cool purply red color. They're like little colorful fingers. I often spot this color on a shoot that has not yet finished branching out.

I spent my afternoon whittling bamboo bows for bow and arrow sets. There will be more whittling in my future! It is very satisfying.
I'll have the finished products for sale at the Upcoming "Arts in the Garden" event on Saturday, May 14th at Hatcher Garden.

I will be giving a bamboo broom making demonstration at this event alongside many talented artists from in and around Spartanburg County.
I'll also have bamboo oddities and crafts, which I'll talk to you for hours about. My booth will be a place to touch and feel and learn about bamboo.
